Position Summary
The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track)position in Educational, Culture, Policy and Society ( ECPS ) in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy ( ELP ). ECPS has a long and distinguished history of emphasizing research related to the production, reproduction, and/or amelioration of educational, social, and economic inequalities.
Building on programmatic expertise, we seek a colleague whose scholarly interests include examining the broader social and institutional forces shaping postsecondary opportunities and outcomes, while identifying those factors that may either serve as barriers to postsecondary opportunities or the policies, practices, and intervention strategies that may serve as catalysts for change. In addition, we are particularly interested in researchers who investigate the role of higher education in social and economic mobility, specifically exploring its intersection with race/ethnicity, nation of origin, social class, gender expression, and related factors.
Responsibilities include:
Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall of 2025.

Responsibilities include:
- Conduct exemplary research, commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty appointments, leading to the development of innovative ideas and publications in prominent scholarly outlets
- Pursue extramural funding for research initiatives
- Teach two courses per semester at the graduate level
- Advise and mentor graduate students, including chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees
- Support efforts to recruit Ed.M. and Ph.D. students
- Fulfill service responsibilities related to program, departmental, and university affiliations

Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in sociology, sociology of education, educational policy, economics of education, higher education, or a related discipline
- Evidence of success or potential for success in securing external funding to support research
- Demonstrated potential for research productivity via peer-reviewed scholarship in one or more of the desired areas
- Research agenda focused on enhancing opportunities and outcomes for underserved populations in higher education
- Expansion of our existing strength in research on understanding social, economic, and educational inequalities
- Commitment to caring mentorship of graduate students into teaching and academia, especially from and for underrepresented populations
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong interest and ability in the pursuit of research using mixed methods, and strong interest and ability in pursuing interdisciplinary collaborative research
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in the classroom and in online/hybrid formats
- Interest in and capacity for secondary analysis of large-scale government, state, and/or institutional data
- Evidence of past and future experience in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion
