Department Summary

The University of North Texas Health Science Center is one of the three higher education institutions of the University of North Texas (UNT) System, with the UNT at Denton and the UNT at Dallas as two other higher education institutions. The UNT System provides high-quality education to those in the North Texas region, including Fort Worth, Dallas, Denton, and Frisco, as well as those from other states. Position Overview

The School of Public Health (SPH) at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (HSC) seeks applications to fill a full-time open rank faculty position in the Department of Population & Community Health. This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment with a primary focus on developing externally funded research and graduate education in environmental and global health. This position aims to strengthen our focus on environmental change and its impact on population health outcomes. The candidate should have an earned doctorate with a focus on environmental and global public health or a closely related field.

The successful candidate should demonstrate a record of an externally funded research portfolio in environmental/global health. The candidate will also teach graduate-level courses annually. The courses will explore the environmental factors influencing global health outcomes, including climate change, sustainability, climate resiliency, food security, and global health equity. The faculty member will also contribute to course development and curriculum planning, advise graduate students, provide service to the department and university, and engage in scholarly activities focusing on the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate effectiveness in developing and collaborating with research teams to obtain external research funding and a commitment to developing and practicing effective, evidence-based teaching strategies tailored to environmental and global health related topics. Experience in community-based environmental health analysis and outreach will be highly valued.

Job Duties:
  • Research:
    • Develop and maintain an externally funded, active research portfolio in environmental and global health
    • Collaborate with SPH and HSC colleagues and external academic and community partners to develop vibrant research teams and nurture an inclusive, interdisciplinary collaborative environment
    • Develop new collaborative relationships with academic, community and industry partners to provide opportunities for faculty and students
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and deliver graduate-level environmental and global health-related courses and research capacity-building curricula in public health
    • Create and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with the latest academic and/or industry trends
    • Mentor students and early career researchers through advising and consultation on research projects and career development
  • Service, Engagement, and Professional Development:
    • Provide leadership in the School of Public Health and HSC Stay current with emerging trends and challenges in environmental and global health and provide leadership nationally and internationally
    • Participate in relevant professional organizations and networks to maintain a strong presence to help improve student recruitment and outcomes and SPH reputation
    • Be an engaged scholar outfacing the community
