Job Description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Nursing (UMSON) is currently recruiting for an Assistant Professor/School Health Officer in the Department Family and Community Health who will serve as the School Health Officer, teach core courses in the graduate programs, and participate in scholarship and service.

UMSON enrolls more than 2,000 students in its baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral programs. UMSON is part of the University of Maryland graduate professional campus that also includes the schools of medicine, dentistry, law, pharmacy, and social work. Its interdisciplinary graduate school has more than 40 programs in biosciences, law, and social work, and is one of the fastest growing biomedical research centers in the nation. The unique composition of the campus enables health professionals to address clinical care, public policy, and social issues through multidisciplinary research, scholarship, and community action. Its location in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., Annapolis triangle maximizes opportunities for collaboration with government agencies, health care institutions, and life science industries.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • School Health Officer (60% effort)
    • Oversee clinical compliance for all students.
    • Supervise compliance coordinator.
    • Interpret medical documentation.
    • Collaborate with clinical placements team, advising team, legal affairs officer, and senior academic and administrative teams.
    • Communicate public health information to all UMSON employees and students.
    • Collaborate with personnel and leadership from other schools, the university, and Student Health.
    • Create and implement wellness initiatives for all UMSON employees and students.
  • Teaching, Scholarship, Service and Practice (40% effort)
    • Provide classroom and lab instruction that focuses on content, method of delivery, evaluation of students, and recommendations for curricular adjustments and modifications.
    • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of simulations relative to courses taught.
    • Use evidence-based best practices for educating students.
    • Advise and mentors students.
    • Maintain a program of scholarship.
    • Contribute to the collaborative efforts of an interprofessional team, serving on departmental and school committees.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctoral degree in nursing or a related health field required.


Qualifications:

  • Public Health expertise required.
  • Prior health professional teaching experience preferred.
  • Spirit of inquiry and innovation related to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated technological competence and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
