Assistant Research Scientist (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 14: A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, or mathematics, AND at least one year of post degree professional research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

Research Scientist 1 (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 18: A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, or mathematics, AND at least two years of relevant post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; OR a master's degree in one of the above fields, AND at least one year of post-degree professional research experience.

Research Scientist 2 (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 22: A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, or mathematics, AND at least three years of relevant post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; OR a master's degree in one of the above fields, AND at least two years of post-degree professional research experience; OR a doctorate degree in one of the above fields.

Preferred Qualifications: Assistant Research Scientist (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 14 - The Assistant Research Scientist (ARS) will have experience in the field of industrial hygiene safety, including trainee or technical level Occupational Health and Safety; Environmental Health and Safety (EHS); or Employer Safety Committee experience. Workplace Incident Investigation and Hazard Assessment experience is preferred. The ARS will also have knowledge of federal and state occupational safety and health regulations; strong communication and technical writing skills; problem-solving skills; detail-oriented skills; and the ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.

Research Scientist 1 (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 18 - The Research Scientist (RS) 1 will have experience in the field of industrial hygiene safety, including one year in a technical level Occupational Health and Safety; Environmental Health and Safety (EHS); or Employer Safety Committee professional position. Workplace Incident Investigation and Hazard Assessment experience is preferred. The RS 1 will also have knowledge of federal and state occupational safety and health regulations; strong communication and technical writing skills; problem-solving skills; detail-oriented skills; and the ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.

Research Scientist 2 (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 22 -The Research Scientist (RS) 2 will have two years of professional level experience with depth and broad duties directly related to industrial hygiene or occupational safety and health. This experience includes identifying, assessing, and controlling multiple hazards and stressors (chemical, biological, physical, ergonomic, radiological) in work environments; toxicology; fundamentals of industrial hygiene; measurements; and design of processes and controls. Experience in workplace incident investigation is preferred. The RS 2 will also have knowledge of federal and state occupational safety and health regulations; strong communication and technical writing skills; detail-oriented skills; problem-solving skills; and ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.

Duties Description Assistant Research Scientist (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 14 - The Assistant Research Scientist (ARS) will participate in all phases of industrial hygiene (IH) research, intervention, and field studies through development in BOHIP established protocols and procedures. The ARS will work under the direction of senior scientists to assist in problem identification, study design, execution, analyses, and interpretation and presentation of results. With supervision, the ARS will assist in identifying workplace stressors; provide support for the development of research proposals and workplace evaluation plans; assist in the collection of exposure data including personal and bulk samples; provide support for the evaluation of control measures; and assist in preparing written reports and recommendations. The ARS's work will entail participation in professional-level and broad-scope IH practice.

Research Scientist 2 (Industrial Hygiene), Grade 22 - The Research Scientist (RS) 2 will participate in all phases of industrial hygiene (IH) research, intervention, and field studies. The RS 2 will work to contribute directly towards problem identification, study design, execution, analyses, and interpretation and presentation of results. The RS 2 will identify workplace stressors; develop research proposals and workplace evaluation plans; collect exposure data including personal and bulk samples; and evaluate control measures. They will also prepare written reports and recommendations to prevent occupational disease, injuries, and fatalities. In addition, the RS 2 will develop and communicate technical support and guidance. The incumbents work will entail professional level and broad-scope IH practice.

Additional Comments Contingent permanent, non-competitive, full-time, appointment. Occasional travel throughout New York State to areas not served by public transportation may be required (20%). Candidates, please clearly indicate how you possess a full scope of professional research experience.
