VCU Athletics is seeking an Assistant Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator.

The chief purpose of the Assistant Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator is to guide VCU student-athletes to educational success by providing academic support through developing study skills
and academic goal setting and utilizing academic support resources. Additionally, this position also serves as an administrative assistant to the Office of Student-Athlete Support Services. Reporting to the Senior
Executive Associate AD/SWA, the Assistant Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator works to further VCU Athletics' mission to win conference and national championships, provide a first-class student-athlete
experience, serve as a source of pride for the University and community, and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders.

Typical Duties

Provide instruction related to study skills, time management, note-taking, test-taking strategies, and overall academic success;
Assist with providing academic support to an assigned caseload of student-athletes through weekly meetings & monitor academic progress of student caseload;
Work with student-athletes on major choice and career planning utilizing major maps and other resources;
Provide appropriate communication, as needed with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of
Student-Athlete Support Services regarding at-risk students;
Provide student-athletes with information and assistance in the use of academic accommodations;
Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the faculty, staff, and community resources.
Work with student-athletes on strategies to enhance their overall success;
Assist with and organize and participate in community outreach opportunities for student-athletes;
Assist with career development opportunities for student-athletes.

Provide consistent and frequent communication with the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support/Director of
Student-Athlete Support Services;
Assist the Senior Executive Associate Athletic Director and the rest of the office of student-athlete support services with administrative tasks and reports.
Assist with beginning of the semester preparations
Assist in the planning and coordination of specialized programs and events for student-athletes;
Assist with supervision of the study hall lab for student-athletes and all other services within the area;
Help the Senior Executive Associate AD/SWA with the preparation and organization of various workshops as well as the make up training workshops. In addition, help with the
monitoring of completion of workshops and various training sessions;
Be an active member of the DEI and Health Relationship & Violence Prevention Committee; and help with the DEI social media account
Assist with checking class attendance of student-athletes, particularly those considered at-risk;
Maintain accurate and detailed written documentation for each student-athlete during their course of stay at VCU as required by the NCAA and the University;
Work with the Compliance office and Records and Registration to monitor and ensure the eligibility of the student-athletes;
Participate in professional development activities; and
Must be available for assignments and/or event participation that will require weekend and/or evening hours.
Maintain accurate records, files, and session reports;

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree;
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations;
Personal student-athlete collegiate experience;
Must be able to work evening and/or weekend hours as needed; and
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;
Multilingual skills; and
Knowledge of academic advising in a culturally diverse university environment with student-athletes of varying academic levels.
