Summary : Manages assigned staff in the operation of passenger trains to assure adherence to established schedules and operating safety rules.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manages assigned staff in the operation of passenger trains to assure adherence to established schedules and operating safety rules.
  • Coordinates with Mechanical units regarding the maintenance, repair, inspection and cleaning of equipment and car shops located within assigned locations.
  • Administers policy and procedures that affect the movement of trains, employees, and passengers within assigned locations via Division Notices, Special Train movements, control of employee files, Random D & A testing, Revenue Audits.
  • Coordinates the handling of labor grievances.Consults with Labor Relations and Union Representatives for the resolution of penalty time claims and disputes.Reviews results of labor investigations and carries out discipline as required.
  • Manages the activities of assigned employees during service disruptions, including derailments, equipment failures, power outages, weather emergencies, etc.
  • Delegates work to assigned employees, assures appropriate training in work procedures and reviews completed work for conformance.
  • Assists in supervision of department staff.Ensures increased understanding of rules, regulations, and safety issues. Provides direction on corrective actions and reports same to NJ TRANSIT management as needed.
  • Responds to derailments, accidents, incidents, and other emergencies within assigned area of responsibility, and represents the Transpiration Department as a committee member when necessary to determine incident causes.


Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree in Transportation, Business Administration, Engineering, or related area and eight (8) years of progressive experience in railroad transportation operations, to include supervisory experience.One (1) year of closely related experience may be substituted for one year of Education required
