Duties and Responsibilities:

Auburn University at Montgomery ( AUM ) invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Marketing and Communications/ Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. Reporting to the Chancellor, the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for marketing and communications with responsibility for internal and external communications and the integration of messages across Auburn University at Montgomery campus, affiliates, and partners. Aligns university resources and communications strategies supporting and achieving leadership's strategic objectives at the international, national, state, and local levels.

The successful candidate will:

Serve as an advisor to the leadership team, with the authorities necessary to develop and carry out a strategic communications agenda that advances the university's status and aspirations, both internally and externally.

Demonstrate key strategic partnership and advisor to the Chancellor.

Lead the brand strategy and manage and execute the annual marketing and communications plan

Develop leadership vision and provides strategic direction to Advancement and University leadership regarding communications strategy, public relations, broad-based engagement, enrollment management and brand and fundraising campaign marketing, trends, and tools. Leads, develops, and sustains university-wide brand cohesion and comprehensive and integrated marketing and communications strategies, structures, and protocols.

Manage external and internal communications and ensure quality, consistency, and integration of communications and marketing across all colleges and business units.

Identify and develop key messages, copy points, and publicity opportunities, and ensures consistency of messages across media, events, programs, and platforms. Align university resources and communications strategies supporting and achieving leadership's strategic objectives at the international, national, state, and local levels.

Work closely with Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to coordinate marketing efforts for the university and its departments, promote events on campus, and oversee production of all graphic promotion and marketing materials.

Advance the university's public values and aspirations by partnering with leadership and across the institution, as well as external stakeholders, to grow and protect the University's reputation, build equitable communities, and develop and grow resources for the university.

Supervise the communications and marketing staff which includes monitoring performance plans, assigning project assignments and performance reviews.

Work collaboratively with university colleges, and administrative units/departments to ensure projects align with the overall strategic communication & marketing goals of the university.

Serve as communications & marketing subject-matter expert for the university; provides strategic leadership for brand marketing and initiatives to promote the university; defines and advocates the value of strategic communications & marketing to clients.

Represent Auburn University at Montgomery to external stakeholders at events and on various committees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of applicable university policies and procedures
Extensive knowledge and experience of marketing principles and industry trends
Proven ability and commitment to managing, developing, mentoring and coaching staff and colleagues, with a proven track record of creating organizational structures able to sustain growth and success into the next generation.
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
Knowledge of print production and web integration principles and practices
Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices
Demonstrated success as an effective leader with the ability to develop and communicate long-term vision, values and strategies that focus and drive superb results.
Knowledge of applicable state and federal rules and regulations
Demonstrated commitment to being a values-based, inclusive, transparent and collaborative leader who strives for continuous improvement
Client relationship management and project management skills
Interpersonal, expert oral and written communication skills
Ability to speak in public and make oral presentations
Ability to represent the University and its positions to external constituents
Analytical and problem solving skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communication, Management or related, and ten (10) years of experience executive level marketing and communications in a large, complex organization with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and accountability of which at least seven (7) years must have been in a management/supervisory role. Masters Degree in Management, Marketing or related field preferred.
