Department Summary

The UNT System Human Resources Department is one department made of a team of teams that supports various constituencies and component institutions within our UNT System Enterprise while working together to achieve the vision of becoming an enterprise that is values-driven and customer-focused with an emphasis on excellence, curiosity, and innovation. There are exciting things on the horizon, and we are looking for experienced and innovative HR professionals to join our journey.

Position Overview

As the senior most HR position on the University of North Texas (UNT) campus, incumbent is responsible for setting and overseeing the execution of the Human Resources strategy for the university. Serves as a top people strategist and provides creative and innovative solutions to critical HR challenges. Responsible for overseeing every aspect of the employee experience, incumbent optimizes people centered activities such as hiring, training, professional development and performance management to ensure these efforts support the university's strategic roadmap and growth. Serves as a member of and advises the Presidents Cabinet on people related issues.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelors degree in human resources management, organizational development, business administration or related field, and a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in human resources administration, organizational and employee development and engagement, employee relations, performance management, benefits, compensation, strategic human resource planning, and supporting a diverse workforce, with five or more years experience being in a supervisory role.

  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, and HR best practices

  • A high degree of credibility and integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education as senior HR leader.
  • Experience serving as HR Business Partner or Employee Relations Advisor.
  • Human Resources certification (e.g. SPHR, PHR, SHRMSCP, SHRMCP, etc.)

Job Duties:
  • Serves as a solutions-oriented change leader with influencing capability, that develops and aligns the people strategy with the business strategy; and strategic advisor that understands the organization and the potential evolution of the academic healthcare industry. Inspiring effective change management at all levels of university employment.
  • Proactively leads people operations to adopt best practices that support recruitment, development, and retention of the talent needed to support the university's mission. Supports and advances campus competencies with people operations methodologies including talent acquisition, talent development including effective feedback/evaluation, talent retention, and related issues In partnership with the Office of General Council, maintains in depth knowledge of legal requirements and options related to day-to-day management of employees, to include evaluation of employee performance and actions available to reward, modify or terminate employment, thereby reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • As a culture carrier, develops and delivers practices that reinforce a service-oriented culture focused on employee engagement, quality, safety, service excellence, and fiscal responsibility. In addition, plays an important role in helping to build internal capabilities, change readiness and organizational resilience to support and deliver on key business transformation initiatives.
  • Establishes clear leader and employee traits with behavioral anchors that support our focused people-first culture as well as the frameworks and infrastructure to building out other strategic workforce areas to support a high-performance culture.
  • Effectively manages human resources functions, including encouraging the use of business analytics to improve efficiency and efficacy across Human Resources areas.
  • Builds trust within the organization through active listening, effective problem solving, and partners with the university's schools, departments, and leadership teams to create a culture of accountability, service, inclusive excellence, and high performance.
  • Communicates effectively with campus stakeholders and senior leadership about emergent people operation issues and possible solutions including providing Vice Presidents and other senior leaders with information needed to be successful in their respective areas.
  • Collaborates across the UNT System Enterprise in the ideation and formulation of a strategic and tactical approach to enhance and streamline Human Resources policies, practices and procedures to become a values-based, people-first employer of choice.
