Summary: We are searching for an Assistant/Associate Professor to develop an integrated research and teaching program in food science and technology with a focus on value-added food processing.

Classification Summary:Food Technology is the application of food science to the selection, preservation, packaging, processing, distribution and use of safe, nutritious, wholesome foods.

Classification Standard Duties:The faculty uses engineering, biological and physical sciences to study and teach the nature, deterioration, processing and improvement of foods for consumers.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

• Ph.D. in Food Engineering, Chemical Engineer, Ag Engineering, or closely related field in

hand by date of hire.

• Documented experience in food processing, bioprocessing, and/or pharmaceutical.

• Evidence of research resulting in peer reviewed publications and scientific abstracts.

• Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to effectively interact with diverse

audiences, and to communicate effectively in English.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The individual in the position will be responsible for developing an integrated research and teaching program in food science and technology with a focus on value-added food processing, while supporting student recruitment and retention efforts and effectively contributing to agriculture and science literacy efforts. The candidate will develop an outreach program to the NM food and bioprocessing industry and will provide workforce training to clientele in the state and region. Expected scholarship includes communication of research in peer-reviewed journals, presentations as scientific conferences, and outreach that effectively convey research findings to clientele. The candidate will be expected to mentor graduate students and develop/teach undergraduate and graduate courses appropriate to the individual's area of expertise. Service activities to the department, college and university are also expected.

The candidate will also collaborate as a core faculty member of the Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS) and therefore will be expected to effectively build and participate on interdisciplinary and multidepartment teams, and develop collaborative relationships with faculty in the center, and across the college and university. The candidate is expected to effectively document the impacts of their research, education

and outreach programs and to effectively promote CESFAS, their departments, colleges and the university to external stakeholders.

The candidate is also expected to promote programs within the department, College of ACES and NMSU to meet the LEADS 2025 Equity, Inclusion and Diversity goals prioritizing the program expansion to nontraditional demographics.

Foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center of Excellence in Food and Sustainable Agriculture (CESFAS).

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-doctoral research and/or industry experience.

• Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, mentoring

students and Extension education.

• Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students and industry to develop

collaborative research and Extension programs.

• Documented ability to obtain extramural funding.
