The Department of Sociology at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position specializing in the sociology of health and medicine. We seek a theoretically engaged scholar whose work uses quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methodological approaches to study health as a societal issue, examining aspects that might include but are not limited to the interplay between health systems and patient experiences, the changes technology brings to healthcare provision and delivery, and the systemic origins of health disparities.

The successful candidate will participate in the University of Virginia's (UVA) Precision Medicine/Precision Health Grand Challenge initiative. UVA's 2030 plan recognizes Precision Medicine/Precision Health as a major societal challenge and an opportunity for multidisciplinary work that draws on our existing strengths. In partnership, the Provost and the deans of various schools are making multiple coordinated faculty recruitments to strengthen the research community focusing on Precision Health for Populations across the University.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements- Assistant Professor
Education: Ph.D. or terminal degree. ABD may be accepted.

Experience: Three years

The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity for independent research that contributes to the field, indicate promise of sustained research excellence, and provide evidence of strong mentoring skills. We particularly value candidates who can advance the University's ambition to cultivate the most vibrant community in higher education in order to prepare students to be leaders in a diverse and globally connected world.
