Job Summary

Under the direction of the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director, the Assistive Technology (AT), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Specialist is responsible for conducting assessments, professional development for staff and parents on evidence-based practices in AT and AAC, development of AT and AAC related instructional programs, and making equipment recommendations for students with disabilities.
To meet the learning needs of students, an AT/AAC Specialist will make themselves part of multiple school Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams responsible for reviewing and analyzing student data to improve the supportive services required by the SELPA to enhance student learning through the use of AT and AAC. The AT/AAC Specialist will be expected to support the learning of other educational professionals to build their capacity and confidence in collaborating on assessments and implementing AT and AAC equipment in various educational settings.
