DESCRIPTION

Job Overview

UC San Diego's Temporary Employment Services department is excited to announce a long-term opportunity for an Associate Director, Career Development & Industry. This role plays a vital part in the Career Center, contributing to the Career Development, Career Education, Operations, and Industry Relations pillars. Under the guidance of the Executive Director and Senior Associate Directors, the Associate Director will provide a wide range of services and programs to support the career development and educational needs of students and alumni.

Key Responsibilities:

* Career Coaching and Advising:
-Offer individual and group career coaching, helping students and alumni with career planning, goal setting, decision-making, and improving career readiness competencies.
-Utilize various theoretical frameworks, including career and life design, to provide holistic career coaching that integrates academic and co-curricular experiences.

* Program Development:
-Develop new career advising and coaching services and programs tailored to student and alumni needs.
-Collaborate with career communities, including academic, alumni, employer, parent, and business groups, to create scalable programs and interventions.
-Work closely with senior leadership to engage students in career and life design, experiential learning, alumni and employer connections, and transferable skill development.

* Industry Engagement:
-Build and maintain relationships with current and potential employers to enhance recruiting efforts and align career opportunities with student interests.
-Act as a connector within the career ecosystem, particularly focusing on the biological sciences sector.
-Develop a "hub" of connections, emphasizing support for underrepresented communities, especially first-generation and low-income students.

* Workshops and Presentations:
-Create and facilitate workshops and presentations on various career development topics as needed.

Focus Area:

The Associate Director will primarily focus on the biological sciences, serving as an informed connector in an opportunity platform and career ecosystem that empowers students and alumni.

Collaboration:

This role will require close collaboration with senior leadership and major stakeholders across the university, ensuring that career services are aligned with institutional goals and student needs.
  • Anticipated duration: 12 months
  • Compensation: $34 - $38 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.
  • Location: Hybrid/remote, remote work available 2 days per week. On-site work will be at UC San Diego's main campus in La Jolla.
  • Work schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
  • Knowledge of career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to establish goals and prioritize workload of self and others.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and to work efficiently and effectively on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to manage details of complex projects and events and to independently follow through to successful completion.
  • Knowledge of academic, vocational, career programs and opportunities with the ability to apply theories and principles of higher education in a college structure.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
