THE OPPORTUNITY

UT Southwestern Medical School is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the position of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (AD-UME). The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education reports directly to the Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Education. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping and advancing the undergraduate medical education program, ensuring high standards of curriculum delivery, fostering a positive learning environment, and promoting excellence in medical education.

The AD-UME has responsibility for overseeing the entire UTSW MD curriculum, including the Pre-clerkship Experience (PCE), Clerkship Experience (CE) and Post-CE phases. The AD-UME will partner closely with educational leaders across UTSW MD curriculum to continually improve the quality of all courses, clerkships and educational experiences with the ultimate goal of ensuring educational alignment and effectiveness of the curriculum toward meeting the MD Program Objectives and associated competencies.

The AD-UME will have an exemplary track record of medical education leadership and a proven understanding of the medical student curriculum, as well as knowledge of pedagogy, emerging challenges, and innovative approaches and curricular design in undergraduate medical education. The AD-UME will be an experienced and committed leader, manager, teacher, role model, communicator and collaborator who furthers the UTSW mission and commitment to excellence in medical education.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) and a strong background in medical education.
  • Previous administrative experience in a medical school setting.
  • Experience with the development, management, and monitoring of medical education programs.
  • Curriculum leadership experience as a course, clerkship, or program leader.
  • 7-10 years of direct teaching experience of medical students.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and guidelines for undergraduate medical education.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal skills and collaborative, inclusive and team approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with all phases of the MD curriculum, the medical education environment, and large medical center environments.
  • Contributions to medical education scholarship, continuing professional development and academic advancement (e.g., attend relevant medical education meetings, Medical Education Grand Rounds, etc.).
  • Able to dedicate a minimum of 70 % FTE to the role.
  • Experience navigating multisite/partner training sites medical education programs.
  • Experience building new training sites.
  • Educational outreach initiatives
  • Leading substantial change in medical education that is patient centered.
  • Integral part of interprofessional collaboration
