Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Residential Programs and Services (RPS) serves as a member of the department's leadership team and shares in the leadership and management of a comprehensive residential program that employs 45 full-time staff, 18 graduate assistants and over 550 student staff, serving 9,000 students. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with partners in and outside of the department to direct the development, implementation and assessment of multiple programs, services and initiatives and is responsible for providing oversight to comprehensive on-boarding, training and on-going development for staff within residential programs and services.

Additional Requirements

This position requires a thoughtful and highly collaborative leader with strong supervision skills; the ability to develop and evaluate strategies for the management of critical incidents and processes; and the capacity to contribute to the success of a curricular approach to residential student learning.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Progressive history working with academic and university partners to coordinate initiatives and systems designed to create intentional learning opportunities for residential students.
  • Completed a minimum of 7 years full-time post-masters experience with demonstrated advancement in residence life/housing or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with hiring, training, supervising and evaluating various levels of staff; including but not limited to students, graduate assistants, residence hall directors and administrative assistants.
  • Progressive background working with unit budgets, residential facilities management, renovation projects and strategic planning.

Leadership and Supervision
  • Serve as member of University Housing's management team by developing, implementing, interpreting and enforcing departmental policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Serve as a member of the RPS leadership team in implementing a holistic residential life program that is focused on student belonging and development.
  • Work collaboratively with RPS leadership team to manage the creation, implementation and on-going review of procedures and protocols.
  • Indirectly supervise and guide up to 9 residence hall directors, 2 coordinators, 3 administrative specialists, 13 graduate assistants and 275 undergraduate student staff members.
  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, development and support to mid-level assistant directors and coordinators within RPS.
  • Actively engage in the development, engagement & retention of each staff member.

University Housing and Campus Partnerships
  • Work collaboratively with all units in University Housing to oversee multiple initiatives, programs, and services that impact the academic and developmental success of residential students (such as facilities, assignments, communications and HR processes).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with campus partners in support of University Housing's operations and initiatives (such as residential curriculum, living learning communities, student leadership or student behavior).
  • Serve on department, division and university committees and task forces as assigned (Case Management Team, Housing Transitions Committee, or Welcome UGA Committee).

  • Offer guidance and support to staff recruitment and selection processes within RPS.

  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation providing direction and support to RPS staff members as they respond and manage student behavior, emergencies and crisis situations within the residence halls.
  • Respond to concerns of students, families and other university stakeholders regarding any and all aspects of the residential experience.
