Jellison Living Learning Center (JLLC) , formerly the Kelley Living Learning Center, serves as the only LLC for Kelley School of Business track 1st-year students at IU. Our center was named after a generous gift from the family of IU alumnus Brian D. Jellison on February 29th 2020. The JLLC is part of the Student Communities division in the academic unit of the Kelley Undergraduate Program. Kelley is proud to be ranked in the top 11 of all undergraduate business programs by U.S. News (2023).

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Performs a full range of professional level work, ranging from core duties of advising undergraduate JLLC business students in their academic, professional, and personal goals, to solving more complex administrative problems through independent actions.
  • As an advisor, the Associate Director will engage students 1-on-1 and in groups while cultivating relationships with campus partners, alumni engagement, and corporate partner relationships.
  • The Associate Director works collaboratively with the Director and team members to develop and execute JLLC academic and co-curricular programs, including Professional Development Series evening programs, workshops, and themed programs.
  • Collaboration with Kelley faculty, recruiting partners, alumni and other staff is critical in development of programs, including out of state experiences to connect with alumni and corporate partners.
  • The Associate Director will collaborate with IU Housing colleagues for student engagement, leadership development programs, student behavioral interventions, student life issues, and supporting the overall operation of the JLLC. While core advising duties will be executed during the work day,
  • the Associate Director will be required to be on-site at the JLLC and travel a handful of evenings and weekends (orientation, student leadership, recruitment activities, and trips). To fulfill business needs, other duties may be assigned. The candidate must be committed to providing equitable and safe space for staff to work and students to thrive.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at improving student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
  • Interfaces directly with students, attending student life events and programs and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student life initiatives and objectives.
  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student life initiatives.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student life initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
  • Provides guidance to student organizations regarding operations, budget, leadership, activities, recruitment, registration, policies, and compliance. Promotes leadership and student development through advising of individual student leaders and volunteers. Contributes to formation, interpretation, and implementation of student organization policies.
  • Plans and coordinates communications and targeted outreach for student life initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
  • May provide guidance to other Student Life Specialists; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
  • May serve on various campus or cross-functional committees to share student life best practices.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, education, business, or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years in student services, higher education, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

In addition to typical office work, the Associate Director will engage in medium moving requirements, including moving boxes of supplies for programs, 25-50 pound boxes for orientation, facilitating food service, and setting furniture for special events.
