Job Duties

Are you knowledgeable of current and emerging energy efficiency policies, programs, and technologies? Do you have experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of partners and key stakeholders? Do you want to be part of a dynamic team demonstrating new ways of promoting energy efficiency in the Commonwealth? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, State Energy Office, is seeking an Associate Director of Energy Efficiency to serve as the State Energy Office's subject matter expert on energy efficiency programs while managing an ever-evolving portfolio of energy efficiency programs.

The successful candidate will work closely with a diverse group of stakeholders across the Commonwealth while overseeing the Inflation Reduction Act-funded Home Energy Rebate programs, statewide consumer energy education and outreach efforts, and energy efficiency workforce development programs. This position will manage and mentor a small team of staff to successfully design and implement these new programs.

This position is currently approved to work a Hybrid telework schedule with four days in the office and one day of telework.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position:
• Knowledge of current and emerging energy efficiency and demand flexibility resources and technologies
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and programs related to energy efficiency and demand flexibility
• Knowledge of key public and private players in Virginia's energy efficiency sector
• Ability to set program priorities and balance human and financial resources against program needs, including by using project management tools and data analysis
• Ability to motivate direct reports to succeed in their roles and pursue their own professional development
• Ability to understand and develop plans for complying with complex federal funding requirements
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders, including utilities, Commonwealth agencies, federal agencies, regulators, consultants, consumer and environmental advocacy groups, local governments, financial institution partners, and others
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; analyze and communicate information clearly and concisely
• Experience in government procurement practices, financing programs, and contract administration in a progressively complex organization
• A valid driver's license with a good driving record

This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. In addition, individuals accepted for employment will have to successfully pass a drug test, reference and background check as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.
