Associate Director of External Communications

The Associate Director of External Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping and disseminating the organization's message. This role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for education and a talent for storytelling. The Associate Director of External Communications will be responsible for developing and executing content strategies, managing public relations and serving as a brand ambassador. This position requires a blend of creativity, leadership and strong communication skills.

Associate Director of External Communications Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement comprehensive content strategies across multiple platforms
• Create, curate and manage engaging content that aligns with the organization's mission and goals
• Oversee the production of digital content, including social media posts, newsletters, blogs and videos
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists
• Develop and execute PR campaigns to enhance the organization's visibility and reputation
• Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories and other communications materials
• Manage media inquiries and coordinate interviews and press conferences
• Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, representing its values and mission to external audiences
• Develop and maintain a strong, cohesive brand identity
• Ensure consistency in messaging across all external communications
• Provide leadership and guidance to the communications team
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align external communications with organizational goals
• Support executive leadership with speech writing, presentations and other communication needs
• Monitor and analyze communication metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns

Associate Director of External Communications Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in external communications, public relations or a related role
• Proven track record in developing and executing successful content strategies and PR campaigns
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Strong media relations skills and experience
• Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively
• Experience in the nonprofit or education sector is a plus
