Optum Financial is a high-growth area within Optum and one of UnitedHealth Group's five growth pillars. In support of this growth, Optum Financial is expanding its Strategy & Business Development team. This position will support the current Sr Director, Strategy & Business Development in developing and driving strategy and inorganic growth across Optum Financial. This includes long-term and P&L-specific strategy projects, evaluation and due diligence of M&A targets, and partnership development. This role will play a pivotal role in supporting identifying and quantifying opportunity for organic and inorganic growth. The ideal candidate will have experience in business development, consulting, or investment banking and understands the healthcare industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports strategy engagements across Optum Financial, including the development of industry landscapes, long-term strategy, and GTM strategy
  • Supports the business development process, in conjunction with leadership team, to identify and assess potential M&A and partnership targets; includes researching target, understanding financial metrics, and developing strategic rationale
  • Partners with key business unit/P&L leaders to drive both organic strategy projects and inorganic growth strategy
  • Conduct market assessments and model total addressable market and specific strategic decision pathways
  • Supports due diligence process for potential M&A through development of synergy assumptions, supporting synergy modeling, and providing core PMO to coordinate the deal team stakeholders and ensure deadlines are met
  • Analyzes and understands key market trends and their implications to Optum Financial
  • Partners with Platform Solutions team on the creation of any CBA (cost benefit analyses)

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in business or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in business development (partnerships, M&A), consulting, corporate development, or investment banking
  • 2+ years of experience working with senior level leaders
  • 2+ years of experience/expertise in fintech and/or healthcare
  • 2+ years of experience doing advanced Powerpoint deck development
  • 2+ years of excel experience with large data sets include: pivot tables, advanced formulas, and financial modeling (DCF-discounted cash flow, NPV, P&L/income statement, ROI/cost benefit analysis)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of UHC and other Optum businesses
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive projects to completion
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple teams and supporting functions

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
