Summary

The Associate Director and Academic Coordinator participates in the organization, administration, planning, and evaluation of the 30-month Program leading to the Master of Science degree.

Core Duties

  • Serve as a student advisor regarding their academic performance and professional development.
  • Serve as a mentor for students fulfilling the Master's Paper requirement.
  • Develop and deliver learning sessions based on program needs.
  • Participate in routine testing of student competencies.
  • Participate in quality control and evaluation to maintain Program accreditation.
  • Participate in the onsite evaluation of clinical year PA students.
  • Participate in the admissions process.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Engage in original research, including presentations and publications.
  • Serve on School and College Committees.


Administrative Duties

  • Provide Orientation yearly to matriculating students.
  • Assist in the supervision of faculty and staff in the day-to-day operation of the Program.
  • Coordinate administrative and instructional activities of the educational program in absence of the Program Director.
  • Maintain files regarding curriculum, students, and other program activities.
  • Provide guidance and referral services to PA students.
  • Present during curriculum and promotions committee meetings.
  • Plan, coordinate and lead the White Coat Ceremony.
  • Conduct Faculty Hour sessions each academic term.


Instructional Management, Evaluation, and Service Duties

  • Coordinate with administrative staff, Simulation Lab, and course directors the scheduling of all content in the didactic phase of the curriculum, including room reservations and AV needs.
  • Coordinate with ASC for student referral and tutoring services.
  • Coordinate Emotional Intelligence seminar series.
  • Coordinate with administrative staff for the didactic year the preparation of memos, reports, letters, teaching schedules, testing periods, course evaluations, thank you notes for course directors and instructors.
  • Work with course directors and lecturers to regularly review courses and supervise revisions and updating of syllabi, Blackboard, lecture objectives, content, and exams for all didactic year courses.
  • Coordinate BLS/ACLS course, Suture Workshop, clinical year preparatory activities, and Casting/Splinting Workshop for didactic year students.
  • Serve as Course Director and/or module coordinator for assigned courses.
  • Work with clinical phase team to schedule activities to orient students to clinical phase of training.
  • Oversee the reporting of interim and final grades by course directors during the didactic phase of the curriculum to both the program director and registrar.
  • In conjunction with course directors, evaluate all components of the didactic curriculum.
  • Assist Program Director maintain data to evaluate program quality.
  • Oversee administration of standardized exams throughout the didactic phase of the curriculum.
  • Review of annual PACKRAT,PANCE and other data for reporting and accreditation purposes.
  • Provide clinical service as appropriate to expertise and availability.
  • Participate in the activities of local, state, and national professional organizations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: master's degree or higher from an accredited physician assistant program in the United States.
  • Experience: Prior clinical experience (minimum three years); prior teaching experience in an accredited PA Program in the United States (minimum three years).
  • Certification/License: Current NCCPA certification, Texas licensure.
