Role reports to: Skin Health & Beauty R&D Organization

Location: Skillman, NJ Kenvue's corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.

Travel %: 10%

Pay: $68K - 92K

What you will do

The associate scientist will support new product launch initiatives for moisture products under the Neutrogena® brand. This candidate will be directly responsible for the product and process development of new product innovation. This candidate will develop and demonstrate technical expertise in product design, formulation, process development and scale-up activities to execute projects. They will be encouraged to lead these initiatives while operating independent of technical direction. This candidate will work closely with cross-functional partners to achieve project milestones and ensure successful new product launches. This candidate will need to incorporate strategic consumer, category and business insights to deliver regional goals. The candidate will be accountable for the design and execution of regional projects linked to portfolio strategy, which includes collaborating across functions to co-develop product concepts & briefs, align R&D scope and demonstrate problem resolution methods through utilization of deep consumer and organizational knowledge.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and primary duties include formulation prototype development and batching, including stability and consumer evaluation, attending project update meetings and project related documentation. Excellent communication skills together with the ability to manage complexity are must-have prerequisites. He/she will develop facial moisture formulations and processes; and execute deliverables for regional and global projects while collaborating with cross functional partners to ensure all timeline deliverables are met.

Responsibilities of the Associate Scientist:

  • Product and process development including formulation prototyping, scale-up of lab formulations to commercial size, troubleshooting of manufacturing processes and process validation
  • Technical writing that includes specifications and development summary reports
  • Collaboration with and/or leading cross-functional teams to implement timely new product launches
  • Competently handle day-to-day deliverables and adapt to changes in the work environment
  • Ability to understand and translate trends in the product category to new consumer & technology insights


The scope of work will include:

  • Product and process development/process scale-up
  • Identification of critical process parameters at the lab, pilot, and full manufacturing scales
  • Product/process specification development
  • Process validation
  • Executing the technical aspects of projects
  • Supporting cross-functional teams to implement timely new product introductions
  • Driving technical resolutions during development and in manufacturing
  • Troubleshooting product issues under aggressive and sometimes compressed timelines


What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Product and process development/process scale-up
  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering field (Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or
  • Pharmacy is preferred)
  • 0-2 years of cumulative, relevant work experience (academic or industry)
  • Experience with formulations and/or processing of consumer products
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment while being an individual contributor
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills, ability to write clearly & informatively
  • and create documents that are complete and accurate
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with cGMP and other regulatory requirements
  • Experience collaborating with external partners, suppliers, and technical project management
  • Strong technical foundation of formulated product forms such as emulsions and surfactants
  • Experience with process development/ scale-up
