Position Summary

Internal to University of Georgia - Professor Search

The Associate Vice President (AVPR) for Faculty Affairs and Campus Engagement leads the Office of Research initiatives and activities in supporting faculty researchers by overseeing professional development programs and campus engagement activities, directs the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, the Visiting Researcher/Scholar Program, and relevant research personnel policies and position management needs.

The AVPR leads OoR's internal and external honors programs, working closely with unit leadership, academic unit representatives, various campus units, and the Provost Office to confer honors.

Working with other AVPRs, the incumbent will lead the conceptualization and development of certain institutes and strategic initiatives for interdisciplinary research growth.

The role will oversee OoR's reporting efforts for centers and institutes and serve as the Vice President of Research's (VPR's) liaison with select centers and institutes.

The incumbent reports to the VPR and may have duties assigned other than those described elsewhere.

The AVPR works closely with the VPR and Deans and Associate Deans for Research across campus, human resources units, business staff, external consultants and vendors, the Provost's Office, UGA Colleges and Schools, the Graduate School, and centers and institutes on campus to execute duties.

The Office of Research is, by necessity, a highly matrixed environment. The AVPR will work in close collaboration with other Office of Research leaders to support the University research enterprise.

The position will be time-limited (up to three years) and is only open to tenured full professors at UGA.

Additional Requirements

Must be a current UGA Professor with Tenure.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Extensive background with building successful academic recognition or honors programs within a university environment.
  • Expertise and interest in building professional development programs for academic or research populations, including training and program management.
  • Background working with teams, central units, and university leadership on policies and procedures related to university-wide research personnel.
  • Ability to work effectively within university cultures, as well as the ability to build effective collaborations with faculty and at all levels of the institution.
  • Ability to work effectively with other administrative leaders to advance mutual goals and work within a matrixed environment.
  • Possess a record of sound administrative, personnel, and fiscal management at UGA or another large research institution.
  • Demonstrate a passion for collaborating collegially with a wide range of internal and external constituencies.

Oversee campus-wide policies and position management for the following research personnel populations:

Direct the following campus engagement efforts for the Office of Research:
  • Research Communication and Collaboration Roundtable (RCCR) meetings for Associate Deans of Research within academic units, held monthly

  • OoR Center and Institute reporting and support
  • OoR Center and Institute event support
  • Liaison to assigned Colleges/Schools
  • Liaison to, and catalyst for, select new campus-wide research centers, institutes, and initiatives (e.g. Center for Drug Discovery, Precision One Health, etc.)
