DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.

The Student Health and Well-being cluster of the UC San Diego, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active well-being culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. Under the oversight of the executive director, the SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.

CAPS delivers campus-based mental health services to over 43,000 registered UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. CAPS' multicultural, multidisciplinary, and student-centered staff strives to deliver trauma informed, culturally proficient counseling and psychiatric services, psycho-educational preventive outreach and early intervention programming, consultation, research, and training opportunities.

In collaboration with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, CAPS services support the academic mission of the University aimed at student success, retention and well-being, and works toward the maintenance of a just, inclusive and healthy living and learning environment for individuals to flourish as they pursue their academic, career, and personal goals. CAPS is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and the Post-doctoral Resident Training Program is affiliated with the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Center (APPIC). CAPS is fully committed to self-examination, peer review, and quality improvement through the utilization of metrics, data, clinical outcomes, client experience measurements and feedback.The new Comprehensive Immersive Care Program (CICP) Manager supports UC San Diego strategic planning goal of health care excellence, expanding a world-class academic health system to deliver innovative, accessible and compassionate care, striving to enrich the student experience, improving their mental health and mitigating social disparities through student centered care. The CICP is part of a community continuum of mental health services ranging from inpatient hospital setting to outpatient care and support. The incumbent leads a team of licensed multidisciplinary professionals, delivering a structured, concentrated and comprehensive suite of culturally responsive and trauma informed mental health practices and interventions. Oversees active treatment of the student that incorporates an individualized treatment plan and coordination of wraparound services to support their academic success and personal development. Oversees services designed at a minimum to reduce or control the students' psychiatric symptoms, preventing relapse or trips to the emergency department/hospitalizations, reasonably improving or maintaining the student level of functioning with less intensive treatment. It requires expertise in program development that integrates principles of intensive outpatient programs and crisis stabilization programs, determining the extent to which program goals are being realized with metrics and dashboards for data informed decision-making. Manager recruits, hires, trains and supervises licensed clinicians providing counseling and assessment services, crisis intervention, case management, individual and group therapy and / or testing. Maintains a clinical caseload, and provides clinical consultation to CAPS clinicians. Assists in ensuring the quality of standards and treatment delivery, administration and management of personnel, proctoring, fiscal, physical and material resources in compliance with departmental goals and objective.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctoral or master's degree in related area or equivalent experience /training.
  • Minimum 5 years licensed experience incorporating evidence-based and informed psychological practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral health counseling methods and techniques, crisis intervention, treatment planning and case management. Proven ability to conduct culturally responsive and focused clinical interventions for the wide range of presenting issues with varying degrees of acuity, severity, and complexity.
  • Demonstrated skill to develop programs, specifically in Crisis Stabilization and/or Intensive Outpatient care
  • Demonstrated skill in assessing and effectively managing mental health emergencies, risk and disposition through case management and efficient follow up.
  • Demonstrated expertise working with diverse student populations, including proven success addressing their social/ecological and psychological experiences and dynamics on campus to foster their matriculation and academic achievements.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to organize operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills to guide behavioral health providers on treatment methods.
  • Working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster the best working and learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships. Ability to relate warmly, humanely, sensitively and empathetically to others.   • Proven ability to develop and implement effective culturally responsive outreach programs and provide consultation, mental health promotion, and preventative psycho-educational outreach services.
  • Ability to ensure patient care service standards are consistently met; assists staff with managing challenging patient interactions with sensitivity and skill.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health centers / clinics.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to acknowledge, advocate and support the efforts to dismantle structural racism and divisive biases based on race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and political beliefs.
  • Ability to at all times adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.   • Ability to use discretion, maintain utmost confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, State and Federal Guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy ACT (FERPA).
  • Must complete all required training assigned by UCOP, UCSD and SHW/CAPS on a timely basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual preferred. Fluent to provide therapy in English and Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog,Arabic, Farsi, or Hindi languages. Requires Language Proficiency Exam to provide clinical care in a language other than English.
  • Minimum 3 years supervision and management experience.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • This position is funded for two years and may be extended contingent upon additional funding received.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must successfully complete credential verification in order to be granted practicing privileges.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, as needed, for after-hours emergency coverage.
  • Various work locations, if needed and deemed necessary by the department.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
