ASSISTANT COMPTROLLER

Under direction, manages the City of Chicago's insurance broker team and directs the City's property/liability insurance program that includes negotiations (pricing coverage), monitoring effectiveness, reducing risk, and claims management, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists in the overall procurement of the City's insurance program (purchasing, coordinating, and maintaining all lines of insurance); reviews and leads negotiations coverage in coordination with department staff; secures broad coverage/insurance at competitive prices for all City insurance programs; reviews and evaluates insurance policies for completeness and accuracy.
  • Supports the City's insurance broker team and insurer relationships concerning insurance procurement, account management, claims management, safety and loss control, and all other risk management programs, thereby mitigating risks for the City.
  • Manages contractual risk transfer for all City contracts including reviewing and evaluating City contracts and agreements and establishes insurance provisions to transfer risk, negotiates terms and addresses all questions related to the insurance provisions; remains up to date on changes in the insurance industry, insurance case law and any other risk transfer related issues.

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, risk management, finance, public administration or a directly related field, plus five years of professional financial management experience of which three years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, provided the minimum degree requirement is met.


Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Experience developing insurance requirements.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of insurance company procedures
  • Knowledge of City of Chicago procurement process
  • Knowledge of agent/brokerage operations


SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
