Job Summary
The DeJonckheere Lab research focuses primarily on chronic illness self-management in adolescents and young adults, mainly among those with type 1 diabetes. The DeJonckheere Lab is seeking up to 3 hardworking research assistants to join our team. The position will begin in February 2024 for 5-10 hours per week and continue for at least one year. Research assistants will have the opportunity to build on existing research experience by assisting with and/or leading data collection, data analysis (interview and open-ended question qualitative coding and thematic analysis), and dissemination (i.e., poster and oral presentations at conferences, manuscript writing and submission, etc.) efforts on one or more projects.
Current DeJonckheere Lab projects include: 1) a mixed methods analysis of interviews conducted with adults (18+ years old) with type 1 diabetes who experience severe low blood sugar events, 2) a longitudinal open-ended, text message survey of adolescents (12-18 year olds) with type 1 diabetes, 3) a community advisory council of adolescents and young adults (14-24 year olds) with type 1 diabetes, 4) a community youth advisory council of high school and early college students from Southeast Michigan who are interested in learning about and mentoring in research. Additional projects may be available to team members based on their experience and interest levels.

Background Screening

Responsibilities*
- Complete and maintain relevant training to the project (i.e., PEERRS and Children on Campus training, additional training related to qualitative, mixed methods, or community based participatory research research)
- Attend 1-2 weekly meetings with the principal investigator and research team(s)
- Commit 5-10 hours per week to the project on meetings, training, data collection, data analysis, and/or dissemination tasks
Required Qualifications*
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well under time constraints and meet deadlines
- Ability to serve diverse populations, including adolescents and young adults
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to follow institutional and study protocols
- Obtain and maintain institutional training requirements (i.e., PEERRS, Children on Campus, MM required trainings)
Desired Qualifications*
- Previous knowledge of or experience with diabetes or chronic illness
- Experience with qualitative or mixed method research
