Salary Range: Salary is based upon the DCTA agreement with DPS. More information can be found in Article 32 of the DCTA agreement. Payments will be paid in either an hourly wage or in the form of a stipend for current salaried DPS teachers. Seasonal non-benefitted position.

Carries out specific tasks based on established procedures, to ensure a broader set of priorities and objectives are met. Primary focus on execution of assigned tasks in a specific area of responsibility, with a non-technical scope and a high degree of customer service.

W hat You'll Do:


  • Responsible for coordinating an interscholastic middle school athletics program at a school in alignment with larger district athletics program and leadership. Provides information and serves as a resource to others. Acts as a representative of the school and community and plans, evaluates, develops, and implements services in compliance with the established school, district and state guidelines. Follows legal duties of athletic personnel.
  • This is a part-time position (approximately 240 hours over the course of a school year). Role is only open to a current employee at a designated middle school who is not an Assistant Principal or Principal or whose primary role is not already related to the coordination of athletic programming.
  • Actively promotes middle school programming to students, with the goal of creating a robust program at the school; plans and supervises recognition programs for student participants and participates and promotes engagement in Prep League events
  • Ensures proper coordination with district athletics office and participates in all required meetings and trainings
  • Utilizing a variety of platforms, effectively communicates all matters related to the athletics program with the school leader, district athletics leadership, students, parents and other stakeholders; establishes and maintains communication with school and community agencies such as district safety and security and local health, fire, police, and park departments related to health and safety of interscholastic athletics
  • Reviews and distributes athletic handbooks for coaches, student athletes and parents, ensuring that parties understand rules and regulations and expectations of participation; administers policies and regulations pertaining to middle school interscholastic athletics and stays informed of legal standards in all areas under the athletic administrator purview such as Title IX, sex discrimination and negligence cases
  • Ensures all coaches have applied and been hired through the District prior to beginning any assignment and have completed necessary state and local requirements, including certifications and trainings
  • Coordinates and guides the work of coaching staff at the school, modeling nd enforcing professional standards of conduct among staff members; facilitates required training and mentoring for coaches and provides support for evaluation coaches at the school annually
  • Ensures eligibility of student athletes in accordance with District guidelines and that student athletes are registered prior to their season of participation with proper documentation on file, including current physical exams, emergency contact information, and parent/guardian consent
  • Coordinates with the district office on field preparation for each season; ensures field, court or gym is ready for each home game prior to the start of the game, which may include lining fields, sweeping floors, setting up game table and clock, setting up team benches, setting up nets and/or cones, etc.
  • Ensures administrative supervision of events at all home games at all times of the event, as required by Denver Public Schools; oversees game workers for home events as needed; welcomes contest officials upon their arrival at games and assumes responsibility for finding game time replacements if officials are a no-show
  • Works with district athletics operation managers to help decide when to postpone or cancel athletic events and determines when to do so for practices
  • Following district guidelines, oversees accuracy of the school's athletics inventory and budget; works with the school leader to discuss the needs for the middle school athletics programming and creates a plan for funding these needs
  • Ensures that all students complete the registration and pay to play requirements and informs students and parents of grant money or scholarships that may be available
  • Reinforces the importance of respect and sportsmanship and develops necessary strategies to support respect and sportsmanship

  • Have at least a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of coaching
  • Experience with the coordination of events or activities preferred
  • Have a current CPR Certification or the ability to obtain one prior to coaching ( online CPR not accepted ).
  • Teacher Certification is preferred.
  • Completion of CHSAA coaching registration ( if qualified certificated teacher not available ).
  • Have previous coaching experience or experience working with urban youth and or teaching experience (preferred but not required)
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
