Description: Position Summary:

Provides education and instruction to patients on use of home exercise programs for injury recovery and prevention of future injuries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists Physical Therapists in treatment and other patient care related activities as permitted by the scope of physical therapy practice. All treatment related activities shall occur under the direct and immediate supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

• Performs clinical/technical skills specific to the sports medicine department in the role of a physical therapist extender within professional licensure and/or scope of practice

• Assists physicians during the "doctor office visit" by teaching/educating/instructing patients and/or their families on exercises recommended by the physician, including injury prevention and return to sport recommendation patientsin exercise instruction at the point of physician

• In partnership with the rehabilitation and physician staff, identifies, develops, implements, and supports clinical and didactic programs related to injury prevention, rehabilitation, and wellness

• Educates and counsels athletes, patients, families, and/or coaching staff in prevention, first aid of athletic injuries, and return to play issues

• Assists in brace/crutch fitting and product education

• Acts as liaison for community athletic trainers

• Records information in the patient's record as needed to support job function

• Assists the department in ordering and replenishing sports related and medical supplies for the department

• Performs additional patient related and non-patient related tasks to support the sports medicine department, including but not limited to patient scheduling and collecting clinically relevant information and forms

• With appropriate training and oversight by the medical, rehabilitative, or other approved clinical staff, set-up and administer computer-based neurocognitive testing and assist with assessment/reassessment for return to sport

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of rehabilitation and sports medicine, anatomy and sports related issues

• Must demonstrate teaching skills and strong interpersonal skills

• Must demonstrate ability to work well under pressure

• Must demonstrate a service-oriented philosophy

• Must demonstrate courteous behavior in all interaction and maintain respectful relationships with patients and staff

• Good communication skills, verbal and written

• Bilingual skills preferred

• Ability to provide consistently high-quality service to patients, visitors and staff at all times

Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree, master's degree preferred

Experience Requirement:

  • One to two (1-2) years of experience as an athletic trainer with teaching experience preferred.

Certification:

  • National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) Certified, Current CPR Certification BLS
