Position Objective:

Provide services as an Attorney IV in support of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Office of Enforcement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct document review for ongoing matters to identify materials that are relevant to the salient legal and factual issues;
  • Assist in the interpretation of laws, rulings, and regulations;
  • Aid with the preparation and follow-up on hearings, depositions and trials;
  • Develop a strategy, arguments and testimony in preparation for the presentation of a case/matter;
  • Collaborate with paralegals, law clerks and support personnel who are assigned to the matter;
  • Draft and edit various documents including those in electronic format such as e-mails,
  • Excel, PowerPoint, or Word documents;
  • Research and draft legal documents related to complex legal issues;
  • Organize, review, and summarize documents;
  • Search for, review, and tag documents for relevance and/or privilege through a document review platform, such as Relativity;
  • Organize, review, analyze, and summarize written consumer complaints;
  • Search for, review, and analyze consumer phone calls for relevance through a call review platform, such as Nexidia or Veritone;
  • Research companies and individuals using open source and proprietary databases;
  • Identify, contact, and interview potential consumer and other witnesses;
  • Scanning, copying, faxing, emailing and/or mailing of documents to a variety of internal and external staff/parties that relate to a case or matter;
  • Managing and maintaining various types of spreadsheets to track and follow up on a variety of matter related, administrative and organizational activities;
  • Using various on-line research tools, including but not limited to Lexis and Westlaw;
  • Gathering, sorting, classifying and interpreting data and discovery for certain patterns of activity as well as developing recommendations, descriptions and justifications for the Bureau attorney(s) who oversee the matter;
  • Draft legal documents and respond to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Draft answers to questions from the public (i.e. via email or phone) and respond either in writing or verbally;
  • Review incoming correspondence; and
  • Work with matter team if correspondence is needed to be sent to an external entity or individual.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate and Law Degree
  • 4 years or more of legal experience
  • Proficiency with computer databases, spreadsheets and word processing software
  • Prior document review experience.
  • Prior experience interviewing potential witnesses.
  • Prior experience with document and file management tools such as SharePoint or databases using Salesforce platforms.
  • Prior experience using a document review platform, such as Relativity.
  • Prior experience using online legal research tools, such as Lexis or Westlaw.
  • Able to perform other duties normally at the Attorney III level with a high degree of independence and/or high level of productivity


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.

  • Exceptional research and analytical skills
  • Prior background investigation clearance (successful adjudication) at another Federal agency or the CFPB.
