Description of Work
The Nebraska Manufacturing Extension Partnership provides expert consulting, diverse training programs, industry events and workshops, and customized assistance to enrich the productivity, technological performance, and competitiveness of the state's small- to medium-sized manufacturers.

As the Automation Laboratory Engineer, you will:
  • Help support the Nebraska Manufacturing Extension Partnership ( MEP ) effort to develop a working robotics and automation technology center for Nebraska manufacturers.
  • Educate Nebraska manufacturing clients on how robotics and automation can help their businesses be more successful.
  • Bring in manufacturing companies to look at the laboratory equipment that NMEP can create or modify systems and pieces for better efficiency.
  • Answer questions and provide solutions to customer issues.
  • Design/create/customize based upon manufacturer needs.
  • Design and set up an ERP (enterprise requirements planning) computer system for the NMEP department to add to our Lean 101/automation class.
  • Program and set up electromechanical equipment created and tailored to specific business needs including IR lights, sensors, temperature, looking for defects, and vision systems.


Position requires frequent driving to clients in Nebraska.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or relevant field of study plus four years of mechanical and electrical experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills necessary.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driver eligibility criteria.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
  • Programming experience for electronic equipment including wiring of inputs/outputs.
  • Experience with Industry 4.0 hardware and concepts.
  • Experience designing/building electronic fixtures and setup of equipment and robots.
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of databases and the ability to write totals to registers in Excel a plus.
  • Experience centered on robotics and leading technology for manufacturing industry.
