Why does the job exist?

This position will diagnose, repair and overhaul/rebuild light and heavy gasoline, diesel, flexible fueled and electric powered automobiles. The position also ensures all state vehicles are roadworthy, safe and reliable.

How does it get done?

Work performed in a maintenance facility/shop, using computerized diagnostic equipment to determine needed repairs.

The incumbent is responsible for:

- Diagnosing and repairing state vehicles
- Ensuring all vehicles are safe and roadworthy
- Preparing vehicles for auctions and disposal
- Operating various types of machinery within the maintenance facility used to repair state vehicles
- Performing vehicle inspections at different locations throughout the state
- Finding resolutions to customer service calls
- Ensuring vehicles repair and maintenance services occur accordingly

Executive and Judicial agencies.

Ideal Candidate

- Incumbent must acquire 2 certifications within one year of hire.
- Five years as an automotive Mechanic/Technician in a maintenance facility or repair shop setting.
- Experience using shop equipment to include diagnostic equipment.
- Must have and maintain industry accepted level of tools to adequately perform various job assignments.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience as an automotive service technician or mechanic in a maintenance facility and/or repair setting, that may include the use of computerized diagnostic equipment. ASE Certifications in 2 systems or ASE Certified in 2 systems within one year of date of hire is required.

• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.

Employment Requirements

Drug testing before hiring. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver license. Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certification once employed. This is a safety sensitive position and subject to random drug testing.

Working Conditions

Work outside in varying weather conditions -hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, and environmental allergens; exposure to mechanical parts; precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work under pressure next to high-speed traffic in all weather conditions on various types of terrain. Use of hands to finger, handle or feel while performing various assigned duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; bending; squatting; climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling to perform repairs. Able to work in high pressure situations and able to make decisions independently.
