Perform maintenance and minor repair operations on motor vehicles utilizing the skills and adequate tools necessary to accomplish and maintain a safe working environment. The maintenance involves inspections, diagnosis, adjustment, minor mechanical and electrical repairs, and lubrication service. Assemble, install, repair and remove special automotive equipment. Conduct comprehensive safety inspections of fleet and maintenance shop. Schedule routine maintenance and repair by private vendors for Area fleet and ensure warranty repairs are coordinate through the dealer. Coordinate pickup of hazardous waste and used tires. Provide complete tire service for the vehicle fleet, including studding. Ensure cleanliness and readiness of fleet. Ensure damage or abuse of vehicles within the fleet is reported to supervisors.

Keep and maintain all necessary vehicle fleet records in the Fleet Focus Database. Maintain and order parts, motor vehicle fluids and additional tools, as necessary to perform the required duties. Ensure a safe and clean work environment in the office and work place. Ensure safe and clean work space inside the maintenance shop, Automotive Technician Office, and surrounding area. Review the Motor Transport Manual routinely for changes and ensure Area fleet complies with current departmental policies and procedures. Ensure vehicle cleaning station is stocked with required supplies. Work with Radio, WMVARS, and MDC units to ensure required updates and installs are completed on the Area fleet.

Assist Area Maintenance Worker with clearing snow from parking lots and walkways, minor facility maintenance, and lifting objects.

    Working Conditions
    Employee is required to crawl underneath a vehicle/down under the dashboard/into the trunk; lift and carry tires up to 60 pounds in weight; and work in varying, and sometimes extreme, temperatures. Work outdoors and assist in the removal of snow from Area parking lot.
