Title:Baker (FT, FY)

Position Purpose:

Bates Dining, Conferences and Campus Events oversees all student dining and is also the College's catering provider. Staff holding a bakery position primarily work in student dining providing approximately 5000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff and guests of the college who dine in Commons. They are also called upon to prepare items for catered events as needed. The Baker is responsible for preparing a variety of baked goods and maintaining and cleaning all baking equipment. This position calls for someone who is able to safely, efficiently and consistently produce and present food in a high volume setting. A focus on providing outstanding customer service and exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.

Job Duties:
  • Prepare baked goods for student meals.
  • Prepare baked goods for catering.
  • Prepare baked goods for the Den.
  • Assist in other areas as needed.
  • Maintain proper production records.
  • Ensure that proper production and sanitation standards are being maintained.
  • Ensure that standardized recipes are being used.
  • Maintain the highest levels of customer service and display a pleasant and helpful attitude at all times.
  • Promote and value diversity and engage in two-way communication.
  • Meeting schedule includes, monthly dining, conferences, and campus events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Culinary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
  • Serve Safe certification.

Experience
  • Minimum of three years' experience in an institutional or high volume full service food operation.
  • Previous experience in a high volume collegiate setting desired.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to establish rapport quickly with faculty, students, staff and outside clients staying composed and friendly.
  • Commitment to customer service.
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Understand and thrive in a high volume food service environment.
  • Utilize creativity and expertise in most facets of food production.
