Job Summary Job Summary

The primary responsibility is to provide counseling services, crisis intervention, consultation, and resource identification and referral primarily for House Officers. In addition, this position will provide consultation for faculty regarding House Officer well-being and mental health concerns. Responsibilities also include psychoeducational/informational programming on topics relevant to veterinarians, including stress management, compassion fatigue, wellness, resilience, mindfulness, team building, and effective communication. The position is expected to coordinate and collaborate with all appropriate University and community resources, with an emphasis on problem prevention and/or early resolution. This position may, on occasion, provide clinical services, consultation, and programming for the larger employee population at the VMTH. . This role reports to ASAP and coordinates closely with the VMTH leadership team.

  • May work with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum License/Certification:
  • Licensed with the Board of Psychology/Board of Behavioral Sciences in California as a Psychologist, LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC
Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Masters level clinical/counseling degree (e.g., MFT, LCSW, LPCC, etc.), or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual psychotherapy/counseling and family systems.
  • Experience counseling adult populations, including various levels of emotional/cognitive development.
  • Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis. Experience and interest in working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or sociocultural backgrounds.
  • Experience developing and implementing programs of a psychological nature.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Knowledge and skills in the areas of individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Knowledge of child/dependent adult abuse mandated reporting requirements, as well as other significant legislation and laws regulating counseling or social work practice (e.g., Tarasoff, patient confidentiality).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred License/Certification:
  • Clinical Supervisor certification up to date


Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Experience in a veterinary setting or working with veterinarians.
  • Experience working in a hospital or mental health setting providing counseling services related to bereavement, grief and loss, and stress management.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Skills to conduct psychosocial assessments of high-risk individuals (depressed, suicidal etc.,) experiencing grief and loss.
  • Knowledge and skills working with death/dying/bereavement issues
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) in identifying diagnosis of mental disorders in order to assess treatment options and appropriate referral.
  • Knowledge of ethical, legal, and university standards and regulations. Knowledge of mandated reporting responsibilities/requirements (i.e., child and/or elder abuse reporting).
