MedStar Health is looking for a Behavioral Health Addictions Counselor t o join our team !

The Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) provides individual and group counseling, and case management for dual diagnosis/addictions patients. The CAC will work with patients, age 13 years and older.

Primary Duties:

  • Clinical: Participates with treatment team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatment plans to support the patient in chemical free living. Assists patients in achieving directed goals. Structures environment to establish and maintain a therapeutic milieu conductive to recovery from addictions. Utilizes the activities of sober living in a goal directed manner Assists families to develop and increase knowledge about the disease of addiction and mental illness through participation in the Family Education Program. Conducts therapeutic and education groups to assist in the patient's treatment and rehabilitation process. Provides education based on the disease model and support of AA/NA. Observes and documents patient activities in the medical record in a timely , accurate and concise manner. Initiates and makes entries to the individual treatment plan Complies with individual treatment plan.
  • Team: Acts as a departmental and hospital resource through informal leadership and technical expertise . Participates as a department and hospital resource Serves as integral member of the interdisciplinary team, demonstrating an ability to effectively communicate and interact within the team. Acts as a mentor to others on team and in AMHC Acts as a departmental and hospital resource through informal leadership and technical expertise .
  • Development: Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends continuing education programs to maintain certification. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted time for completion ( CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) , License, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.)
  • Organizational knowledge: Works effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mental Health/Addictions.
  • 3-4 years Mental health/addiction experience.
  • Maryland Certified Mental Health/Addictions Professional.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support).
