Summary:

  • The Behavioral Health Supervisor is a core member of the collaborative care team, including the patient's medical provider and psychiatric consultant, as well as the larger medical team. The Behavioral Health Supervisor is responsible for supporting and coordinating the mental and physical health care of assigned patients, including brief therapeutic interventions and coordinating medication management advice, in conjunction with the patient's medical provider and, when appropriate, other behavioral health providers. The Behavioral Health Supervisor serves as the leader for the administrative and operational aspects of the UPHS collaborative care program in specialty practices. The Behavioral Health Supervisor supervises Mental Health Intake Coordinators in the collaborative care resource center and the Behavioral Health Specialists based in outpatient specialty practices delivering care across multiple sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with clinical and operational leadership, affiliates and suppliers in developing programs, services and initiatives to anticipate future customer needs, build customer loyalty and reduce wasted resources. Participates in operational integration of programs by ensuring alignment of communication with UPHS Leadership, practice leadership and staff.
  • Ensures patient and customer satisfaction through comprehensive and continuous measurement of customer satisfaction for all key customer groups, i.e. Community Advisory Board.
  • Accountable for program profit and loss including: expense and revenue variances, AR indicators including write-offs
  • maintain understanding and find root causes for variances
  • Provides program revenue cycle input, including billing, coding, cash management, charge entry, etc. Ensure practice alignment with all standards.
  • Support implementation of managed care contracts and operational processes.
  • Establishes a team approach for the management of the Mental Health Intake Coordinator and Behavioral Health Specialists, thus enabling the team to attain goals and objectives in a consistent manner
  • Works with program leadership to implement and maintain operational efficiencies in the call center and practice setting
  • Monitors and manages the performance of the Mental Health Intake Coordinators and Behavioral Health Specialists
  • Participates in the assessments and triaging of patients referred to Penn Integrated Care
  • Helps to determine service needs of other Penn Medicine departments, and identify new areas of collaboration
  • Actively manages the performance of direct reports. Ensures completion of introductory and annual performance evaluations according to UPHS guidelines. Adheres and abides by policies to ensure corrective action is taken to address specific performance based issues as they arise
  • Maintains compliance with governmental regulations regarding patient care, affirmative actions, safety, etc. Assures adherence to departmental and institutional policies
  • Partners with leadership, physicians and staff to revise practice protocols and policies to ensure optimal staff performance, workflows and practice operations
  • Assists the Medical Director in implementing and evaluating operational objectives as required by policies, regulations, and institutional standards
  • Oversees integrated care technology infrastructure in conjunction with IS
  • Provides staff support for clinical management of patients in acute distress or requiring clinical assessment for further triage
  • Develops expertise in both Penn Chart and BHL software sufficient to problem solve and assist in all functions of the intake center.

  • Develop, design and implement metrics to track and report on clinical, financial, operational and quality performance and to foster data driven decision making
  • Acts as a department liaison to the integrated behavioral health practices in the organization, monitoring and overseeing referrals, appointment scheduling, and appointment authorizations
  • Performs clinical responsibilities of a Behavioral Health Specialist as needed

Credentials:
  • LSW, LCSW, or LPC in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Master of Arts or Science in Social Work, Nursing, Counseling or Psychology (Required)
  • 3+ years of experience in Healthcare Administration or related field (Required)
  • 0-1+ years behavioral health care industry experience; experience with assessment and treatment planning for common mental health and/or substance use disorders; experience with evidence-based counseling techniques (Preferred)
