Description

SAIC is seeking an experienced Big Data Architect/Engineer to support the US Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFMS) program. This is a fully remote position with no travel or onsite requirements.

AFMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations.

The Big Data Architect/Engineer will be responsible for architecting and implementing robust big data solutions to enhance the agency's data infrastructure and achieve strategic business objectives. This role involves designing, developing, and managing complex data pipelines and data warehouses, ensuring seamless data flow and advanced analytics capabilities. We are seeking a highly experienced individual with a proven track record of successful big data architectures and data infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Big Data Architecture Design: Lead the design and implementation of scalable big data architectures that support the agency's data infrastructure and strategic business goals.
  • Data Development Management: Design, develop, and manage efficient data pipelines using modern ETL frameworks to ensure seamless data flow and processing.
  • ETL Process Design and Management: Implement and oversee ETL processes to ensure data accuracy and efficient transformation into data stores optimized for analytics and visualization.
  • Data Warehouse Management: Architect, implement, and manage data warehouses to support advanced big data initiatives, utilizing tools like Apache Druid for real-time analytics.
  • Performance Optimization: Enhance the performance of big data solutions through metadata optimization, caching strategies, and other performance-enhancing configurations.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement role based access control and ensure compliance with security standards and best practices.
  • Continuous Integration and Deployment: Manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and integration of data solutions.
  • Leadership in Big Data Initiatives: Drive big data initiatives, ensuring the data infrastructure supports strategic business goals and delivers actionable insights.
Qualifications
  • DoD 8570 certification in IAT Level II certification or above (Security+ CE, CASP+ CE, CISSP, etc.).
  • Must be a US Citizen and currently possess an active Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of experience; Master's degree with 7+ years of experience; PhD with 4 years related experience; or equivalent years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing big data architectures.
  • Strong expertise in ETL processes and tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of database management systems and SQL.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead big data initiatives and align data infrastructure with business goals.

Desired (Not Required):
  • Familiarity with streaming technologies such as Kafka or experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
  • Experience with Apache Druid.
  • Cloud/AWS experience.

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
