SUMMARY: Assumes responsibility for calibration, repair, and documentation of the routine use and maintenance of all assigned biomedical equipment in accordance with department, hospital, and regulatory agencies upon request in order to ensure the efficiency of patient care.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS

Responsibility I
1. Maintains knowledge of electrical requirements, its routine employment, and conscientious record-keeping in order to perform all maintenance repair and inspection of biomedical equipment.
1.1 Performs repairs and calibrations to ensure that all devices meet appropriate safety and performance requirements.
1.2 Documents all repairs and calibration in an accurate, neat, and timely manner.
1.3 Performs routine Preventative maintenance inspections to ensure that a device meets appropriate safety and requirements.
1.4 Documents preventive maintenance inspections in an accurate, neat, and timely manner.
1.5 Maintains current knowledge of standards, codes, and operations of all clinical and test equipment.
1.6 Collaborates on an ongoing basis with other Health Quest departments to ensure a positive and productive manner.

Responsibility II
2. Modifies an existing instrument to satisfy the special requirements of a particular clinical situation to ensure the efficiency of patient care required.
2.1 Performs modification as required and is adequately aware and informed of the hazards associated with working in a clinical environment and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure patient/employee safety.
2.2 Ensures that any modification does not adversely affect the originally intended manufacturer's performance standards of the equipment.
2.3 Advises instrumentation user on system application and redesign to solve unique operational requirements
2.4 Informs Manager/Supervisor regularly of problems encountered with repairs or calibration of equipment.

Responsibility III
3. Requisitions replacement and repair parts as needed to minimize equipment downtime.
3.1 Submits Purchase orders requisitions in a timely manner for processing, to satisfy the special requirements of a particular clinical situation.
3.2 Recommends to the BIO Supervisor items required to maintain proper departmental inventory.
3. 3 Works closely with Purchasing and Material Management Departments to oversee the proper receiving protocols with patient care equipment.
3.4 Evaluates and set standards for equipment usage and monitors utilization of equipment and supplies.

Responsibility IV
4. Assumes responsibility and accountability for personal conduct while on duty, striving for excellence in work performance at all times.
4.1 Assumes responsibility for the containment of hospital costs and conservation of supplies and equipment.
4.2 Communicates effectively and expresses ideas clearly, at all times.
4.3 Maintains instruments and tools of the department in proper condition, and uses them in a professional manner.
4.4 Disassembles and reassemble, accurately, instruments and equipment in a professional manner.

Responsibility V
5. Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to hospital and department policies and procedures.
5.1 Adhere to Infection control and quality assurance policies and procedure.
5.2 Maintains appearance of work area(s) according to department standards.
5.3 Adheres to all safety regulations reporting any variances to Director/Supervisor immediately.
5.4 Attends and actively participates in all in-services as required.
5.5 Reports immediately all incidents, irregularities, unsafe conditions, equipment, and/or unusual occurrences.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associates Degree in Biomedical Engineering, electronics or Military or equivalent experience.

Experience: Electronic and mechanical background of one to three years experience.

License: Eligible for A.A.M.I. Certification.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FACTORS

Physical: Requires light physical effort on a regular basis, as in frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping or reaching, and/or occasional lifting of light items. Periodic eye or ear strain.

Mental: Some irregularity in scheduled hours because of compensated overtime requirements. The regular volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

One or few unpleasant conditions routinely present (cramp working space, draft area, poor lighting, inadequate equipment furnishing) or frequent exposure to occupational hazard or contagious disease which requires routine precautious.
