Krantz-Family Center for Cancer Research Cartography Core

The MGH Krantz Family Center for Cancer Center Cartography Core is a new translational research facility that combines the latest advances protein and RNA biomarker staining with quantitative digital microscopy analytics to understand cancer biology. We are a part of Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and work closely with other researchers in other departments within MGH at outside institutions. Our goal is to enhance cancer research utilizing the latest high-plex imaging and spatial transcriptomic techniques coupled with state-of-the-art quantification tools.

We are seeking an applicant who is highly motivated, exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and willing to learn. The candidate will have strong analytic and problem-solving skills required to troubleshoot experimental issues. We employ a team-based interdisciplinary approach, working with researchers from diverse backgrounds. As such, the candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

This bioinformatics analyst will specifically work on advancing cutting-edge spatial imaging and spatial transcriptomics technologies.

This is an ideal position for individuals who are interested in working at the interface of research and clinical medicine that have a biostatistics background. This full-time position has potential for growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply existing and novel algorithms to various project data sets, critically review and analyze results
  • Design and develop analysis approaches and workflows and novel software tools for large data sets from different sources
  • Present results effectively to clinicians, experimental and computational scientists
  • Quantitative digital image analysis: contribute to the downstream computational analysis pipelines quantitating digital images under the supervision of a staff or faculty member. Contributions will also include: assisting with hypothesis generation, experimental design, and data interpretation.
  • Quantification and interpretation of spatial transcriptomics data using established analytic pipelines as well as work to develop new methods exploring basic biology of disease
  • Other responsibilities include assisting the Cartography Core Manager in the maintenance and operation of imaging platforms in the group. Common tasks include training new users on advanced microscopy systems and performing image analysis using high-end commercial analysis software and computational languages such as R or Python. These skills can be learned on the job.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. in Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • 3-5 years post graduate experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related fields
  • Strong interest in cancer research; prior activity in this area an advantage
  • Independence, ability to self-motivate, prioritize and organize
  • Excellent programming skills in Python or R
  • Familiarity with software engineering and algorithms
  • Comfort using Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Google Docs to communicate results between team members
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English
  • Ability to work together with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of physicians, experimental scientists, statisticians and software engineers
