Job Description:

The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery, is seeking qualified applicants for a Biological Scientist III to work in the Jiang laboratory. This position will collect, organize, and analyze the experimental data as part of approved clinical trials. This scientist must have strong personal skills, be able to interact with a large number of faculty, clinical and research staff, and college and hospital administration. Animal contact will be required.

Job duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinates scientific services for patient-related studies and clinical trials.
  • Create sample collection kits, process samples, and answer questions pertaining to and providing QA/QC assistance.
  • Collects and processes stool, tissue, blood, and other samples.
  • Perform complex cell culture and cell isolation techniques including working with primary mouse and human cell and tissue culture lines.
  • Perform small animal (mouse) survival surgery, including post-operative management.
  • Will also be responsible for the humane euthanasia of animals, tissue harvesting, and blood collection.
  • Designs and performs scientific experiments for analysis and standardization.
  • Learn and adopt unknown/new techniques/assays to meet project needs.
  • Present results of collected and analyzed data for discussion.
  • Maintains compliance with Environmental Health and Safety offices.
Expected Salary:

$58,000 - $65,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in biology or biomedical sciences is preferred; advanced degree (Ph.D.) is preferred.
  • Advanced degree with minimum 3 years experience in laboratory research experience is preferred.
  • The successful applicant is expected to have hands-on experience in qRT-PCR, cell culture, and western blotting assays.
  • Experience in flow cytometry and/or animal handling is a plus.
