Biological Scientist

Position Objective: Provide services as Biological Scientist in support of the overall functions of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of this position is to support our research lab by designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting experimental results and managing laboratory equipment and materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life.
• Identify, classify, and study structure, behavior, ecology, physiology, nutrition, culture, and distribution of plant and animal species 2.
• Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures.
• Collect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environment 1.
• Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings 3.
• Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment
• Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers 4.
• Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Record research or operational data 5.

Basic Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Biology or related discipline.
• Skilled in cell culture - Flow cytometry - RNAseq Library preparation - Sterile Technique - Graphpad prism
• Microsoft Office Suite

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
