Job Description:

Mouse measurements
Coordinate with lab staff in the scheduling of studies as well as study design. Assist with mouse treatments (injections/oral gavage), whole animal assessments (body composition, exercise tolerance), and terminal measurements. Molecular analysis by qPCR, immunoblotting, ELISA, and related techniques. Tissue morphological analysis by tissue processing, histology, immunostaining and image analysis.

Mouse colony management
Oversee and manage mouse colony, including genotyping, organization for studies, and coordination with ACS staff. Assist with animal orders, import and export, and Physiological Assessment Core housing census. Maintain records of all mouse lines.

Research Project Coordination, Scientific Writing and Dissemination
Serves a liaison between PI/Director, lab staff, and collaborators within as well as external to UF. Coordinates studies or projects as directed; responsible for coordinating activities of all ongoing research projects. Coordinates and communicates with lab staff to aid in experiments including learning new techniques needed for advancement of research in the lab; provides consultation, guidance, and troubleshooting for others in the laboratory related to various aspects of lab techniques and procedures. Responsible for the complete understanding and compliance with all required laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines Maintains accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies. Understand supply orders to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of grant funding; maintain lab supply inventory to ensure supplies are available for scheduled research projects; researches and evaluates new products, compares vendor prices. Analyze data and assemble results for scientific publications, grants, and conference presentations; assist in preparing data for scientific manuscripts, abstracts, grants, and other documents; manage accurate and complete laboratory research records and prepares daily written reports of experimental results; assists laboratory research with searches for and review of scientific literature relevant to the research focus of the laboratory. Aides in the development of new research and laboratory protocols.

Supervising/training lab personnel. Supervising undergraduate students' projects as well as providing technical help to scientists working in the lab. Train and supervise graduate assistants as required.

Expected Salary:

Up to $50,000 annually

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master's degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer 1-year relevant experience; Experience with animal handling, tissue processing, and data management.
