Established in 1970, SVCC is one of the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. The Christanna Campus near Alberta and the John H. Daniel Campus near Keysville serve ten counties and one city - the largest community college service region in the state. In 1985, SVCC opened the Southside Virginia Education Center. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate degrees. SVCC is dedicated to the belief that all citizens should be given an opportunity to acquire an educational foundation which develops and extends their skills and knowledge. The college's goal is to provide diverse instructional programs ranging from developmental studies to associate degree curricula in academic, technical, and lifelong education. Southside Virginia Community College, a comprehensive community college, is seeking a nine-month full-time faculty member with master's level coursework in Biology. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Teaching and student advising, including maintaining 10 hours of scheduled office time per week. Classes taught may be a combination of day, night and/or weekends and a combination of seated, online, or hybrid. Classes may be located on or off campus, possibly in local high schools, or in a correctional center for a total of 15 credit hours per semester across locations served by the college. Other duties include serving on committees, participating in professional activities, mentoring adjunct instructors, and may include program development and assessment. This position is located on the Daniel Campus in Keysville, Virginia or Christanna Campus in Alberta, Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in biology from a regionally accredited institution to include 18 graduate credit hours in pure biology
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in online and face-to-face modalities
  • Willingness to teach in off-campus centers, high schools and correctional facilities
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An understanding of the community college environment and mission
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population
  • Understanding of current best practices in pedagogy
  • Competency in and dedication to the use of instructional technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 18 graduate hours in Anatomy and Physiology Chemistry, Physics or Geology
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Online teaching and RSI experience
