Job Description

Under supervision, performs work of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility in the operation and monitoring of bio-medical machines, devices, equipment or instruments in a hospital, clinic or other medical facility. Assists as a member of a medical research or clinical team. May supervise operation of one or more units; performs related work.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Obtains equipment, materials, and supplies from storage areas and positions them
appropriately for use. Assembles and disassembles equipment or accessories and assists in
adapting equipment for patient wheelchairs.
2. Prepares equipment such as hydrotherapy tanks, paraffin bath, and hot packs by filling tanks,
checking and adjusting temperature controls, and setting automatic timing devices.
Assists therapists to position patient in, at, or on equipment, devices, or treatment tables, and
by showing, aiding, and working with patients in hospitals or treatment centers designed to
accomplish rehabilitation. Observes patients undergoing therapeutic exercises and other types
of treatment.
3. Assists therapists to position patient in, at, or on equipment, devices, or treatment tables, and

4. Receives work orders of wheelchairs from Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Nursing
5. Configures wheelchairs in accordance with Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy
requirements.
6. Picks up orders for equipment repair from each of the Rehab and Nursing stations.
7. Assists Physical/Occupational Therapists on wheelchair adjustments.
8. Checks for proper operation of any other wheelchair and mattress equipment.
9. Assists RecreationalTherapy Department, as necessary.
10. Performs preventative maintenance to ensure that wheelchair equipment is inspected and
repaired in a timely manner.
11. Calibrates or standardizes equipment as necessary.
12. Performs routine testing, maintenance, adjustment, and minor repair of equipment.
13. Prepares records and reports.
14. Orders equipment and supplies as needed.
15. Assisting and supporting facilities and building services to load and unload, storing supplies, equipment, and tools for pickup, delivery, and distribution.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Associate Degree, which included courses in the bio-medical technician field, and two years' experience in the appropriate bio-medical technician field in an approved hospital or health facility; or,
2. Senior high school graduation or possession of an Equivalency Diploma, and three years' experience in the appropriate bio-medical technician field in an approved hospital or health facility; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
4. Employees performing blood analysis require certificates of qualification issued by the New York City Department of Health in subspecialty of 29 (Ph blood gases) or specialty 28 (general clinical chemistry).
