Pay Range

$110,700 - $142,128 Annually

Job Description

We have an opening for a Biomedical Scientist to provide technical expertise in the areas of laboratory animal management and research.You will work in a challenging R&D environment in support of the Laboratory's programs, and other scientific and administrative duties within the Animal Care Facility Group with a strong commitment to animal welfare.This position will be working in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.

In this role you will:
  • Performa variety of routine laboratory animal husbandry procedures such as equipment, caging, or facility sanitation, animal husbandry, and preparing caging and maintenance for animal rooms.
  • Coordinate other operational tasks in Biosciences and Biotechnology Division under general direction of the Animal Care Facility Manager.
  • Assess safety concerns and expedite and/or facilitate resolution.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with Facility Coordinator group and onsite craftsmen.
  • Keep records in accordance with requirements from the IACUC, AALAC, OLAW, and CDC and maintain accurate records for research and development projects.
  • Participate in training for in vivo research studies as directed by Animal Care Facility Manager.
  • Present informal overviews of work progress at weekly meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • BS in Animal Science or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts and techniques in animal management and biology.
  • Ability to use Animal Care Facility related equipment and trouble-shoot malfunctions, such as sanitation equipment (washing or sterilization units).
  • Fundamental computer skills including knowledge of standard software and data analysis applications.
  • Fundamental communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills and abilities.
  • Ability to take initiative and work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to manage scheduling conflicts and work weekends and holidays, as required.

Qualifications we desire:
  • Experience with rodent handling and dosing.
  • Experience with Work Control and worker safety procedures.
  • AALAS certification at ALAT, LAT, or LATG levels

This is a Flexible Term appointment, which is for a definite period not to exceed six years.If final candidate is a Career Indefinite employee, Career Indefinite status may be maintained (should funding allow).
