GENERAL SUMMARY

Individuals hired to the role of Biorepository Research Coordinator will play a key role in the ongoing operations of the Tampa General Hospital/USF Health Precision Medicine Biorepository (PMBioR) with the goal of generating, organizing and delivering diverse, high quality bioanalytes and abstracted data needed to meet the objectives of the rapidly growing clinical and translational research programs at Tampa General Hospital and its Cancer Institute. The ideal candidate will possess the professional judgement, educational background and technical capacity to independently collect, prepare, preserve and manage diverse tissue specimens and abstract matched clinical and demographic data. Biorepository coordinators will be responsible for a) generating complex bioanalytes to meet the needs of TGH CI investigators, b) formulating and executing plans needed to survey these bioanalytes and c) ensuring that quality control standards are being met. Successful execution of these responsibilities will require the BRC to multi-task diverse duties requiring in-depth technical and situational analyses, and manage variations in standard operating guidelines to achieve outcomes compliant with national best practices. In addition, this patient-facing position will involve subject enrollment and successful completion of informed consent. BRCs work closely with TGH operating room staff, faculty members of the Departments of Pathology, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Nursing as well as TGH CI leadership, faculty, and other staff to facilitate daily productivity and successful execution of assigned responsibilities in a professional manner. They will also be expected to demonstrate sufficient independence in these interactions to ensure that technical requests are clarified and executed accurately. Lastly, the BRC may assume direct responsibility for special projects within designated labs as assigned by the Associate Director for Shared Resources and or Executive Director of the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute. The position will report directly to the Lead Coordinator for the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute Biorepository.

Responsibilities will include:

a) Obtaining and documenting written informed consent from potential study subject

b) Collection, processing and preservation of diverse biologic specimens from subjects undergoing a clinically indicated procedure or surgery at TGH, according to established standard operating procedures in a manner that complies with specified quality metric

c) Accurate abstraction, organization and transmittal of complex, disease-specific clinical data and demographics in a HIPAA compliant fashion.

d) Preparation, preservation, and storage of multiple high quality bioanalytes, including but not limited to peripheral blood mononuclear cells, cell pellets, cultures as well as serum, genomic DNA, total RNA and protein from whole blood, fresh and flash frozen tissue specimens.

e) Generation of primary cell cultures/strains, dissociation of tissue specimens, use of flow cytometry to isolated biomarker defined subpopulations of tissue cells, STR fingerprinting, mycoplasma testing, and other experimental activities as required to achieve PMBioR objectives.

f) Organization, storage, transport and distribution of specimens along with any associated metadata requested by investigator

g) Preparation of specimen and data cohorts suitable for sharing with approved investigators.

h) Maintaining up to date certification and training with human subjects research practices, good clinical practice (GCP), HIPAA, shipment of biologic specimens (IATA), phlebotomy and/or other topics as required by TGH and TGH CI leadership

i) Supporting project organization and grant submissions by participating in and (where appropriate) assuming responsibility for project planning, preparation of project timelines and other documents and coordination of coordinator effort.

j) Contributing to the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and administrative documents as requested.

k) Serving as liaison and representative of CI Biorepository Research with outside sponsors, including but not limited to National Cancer Institute, academic cancer centers, universities, etc.

l) Ensuring timely execution of day-to-day biorepository operations as otherwise required to meet TGH CI programmatic goals.

m) Other responsibilities as assigned by Lead Coordinator and/or the Associate Director for Shared Resources, TGH CI.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge and at least 1 years of experience working with biological samples and processing. IATA certified. Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certified.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
