Shermco US is seeking a Breaker Shop Bench Mechanic

BREAKER SHOP BENCH MECHANIC

Join the leader in electrical power system maintenance, repair, testing, engineering & training. We are seeking experienced Circuit Breaker Bench Mechanic to join our team in Des Moines, IA.

Job Responsibilities and Expectations: in our state of the art repair facility you will need strong mechanical skills to complete the following tasks:
  • Work on low & medium voltage circuit breakers, including GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE, and many others.
  • Troubleshoot, rebuild, retrofit, test, and repair low, medium and high voltage switchgear to include the teardown and assembly of breakers, contactors and related switchgear and electrical apparatus, including:
    • High-voltage switchgear up to 3000A, SF-6 Vacuum Circuit Breakers ATS, 13.8kV, 60Hz and 11kV, 50H
    • Medium-voltage switchgear up to 3100A, Vacuum Circuit Breakers ATS, 15.5kV, 4.16kV, 60 Hz and 6/6kV, 50Hz
    • Low-voltage Switchgear up to 3000A, Air Circuit Breakers ATS, 480V, 60Hz and 400V, 50 Hz.


Minimum Qualifications : to qualify for consideration, you must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements:
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED; prefer electro-mechanical training from trade school, apprenticeship or armed services.
  • Strong mechanical skills and experience desired such as industrial mechanical engines, pneumatics, hydraulics, or diesel equipment will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the use of basic hand tools
  • Prefer experience reading and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • 480V to 15KV circuit breaker experience desired.
  • PEARL breaker certification desirable
  • Experience at an OEM breaker manufacturer a plus.
  • Working knowledge of power systems, power circuit breakers and other switchgear apparatus will be given priority.
  • Experience at correctly using tools and testing equipment including digital multimeter, Hi-Pot tester, Megger and primary & secondary injection sets are desirable but not required.
  • Prefer testing skills and understand fundamental electrical and mechanical testing procedures.
  • Must have availability to travel overnight to jobs sites for onsite breaker testing and repair.

Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to stay Drug-Free; you will be required to pass a pre-employment hair follicle drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
  • Must have an acceptable pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must be physically fit to crawl, climb, stand, walk and lift up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations. Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.
  • Must not currently or in the future require sponsorship to work in Canada
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must be willing to travel; minimum 40% of the time
