ABOUT THIS POSITION

Approximately 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact of $38 billion annually.

The Aviation Department is seeking a Building Automation Field & Network Specialist (User Technology Specialist *U2). This position is for a field technician that will be responsible for maintaining the critical Fire Life Safety and Security systems at Sky Harbor International, Deer Valley, and Phoenix Goodyear Airports.

Duties include:
  • Managing contracts.
  • Working with and evaluating contractors.
  • Developing, modifying, and implementing computer graphics, software programs and database management.
  • Installing and maintaining network wiring and wireless communications using copper, fiber optics, switched and microprocessor-based network controllers.
  • Evaluating systems and making recommendations for system expansion, upgrades, modification, and replacement.
  • Performing extensive field work to install, troubleshoot, repair, or calibrate environmental monitoring sensors, automated building control systems, electrical sub-meters, and energy management equipment, as well as other specialized building networks/systems.
Building Automation Field & Network Specialists provide 24/7 coverage with 3 shifts as well as an Energy Systems Command Center Post. In the Command Center role, technicians monitor all critical facilities control systems and function as an aide/advisor to the Airport Duty Manager (ADM).

SALARY

Pay Range: $32.62 - $48.19 per hour.

Hiring Range: $32.62 - $41.63 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in:
    • Systems applications analysis, programming, OR
    • Telecommunications functions utilizing a variety of hardware and software, OR
    • Installation and maintenance of digital systems, radio, and electronic communications systems, OR
    • Telephone station equipment and related telecommunications distribution systems, OR
    • Avionics maintenance, AND
  • Course work including training or experience with one or more work station computers and one or more programming languages and one or more operating systems.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience working in an aviation environment with knowledge of TSA and FAA rules and regulations.
  • Four years of experience in installation, programming and maintenance of networked Fire Alarm/Life Safety systems and components.
  • Two years of journey level experience in the design, installation, programming, and maintenance of Access Control, HVAC Building Automation and Audio/Video surveillance networked systems.
  • Experience in installation, programming and maintenance of networked Access Control/Intrusion Detection systems and components.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Networked Lighting Control Systems and components.
  • Experience in the installation, operation, and maintenance of various environmental safety sensors.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Experience working with control communication protocols (Lonworks, Modbus and BACNet, RS 232 & RS485) and control signal protocols (1-10vdc, 4-20 ma).
  • CSA Level II or NICET Level II Fire Alarm Systems certification preferred.
