ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Public Works Department is a large, diverse organization with approximately 1,000 employees in six divisions. The department provides internal support for other city departments and external services to Phoenix residents. Internal citywide support functions include alarm services, badging, procurement services, fleet, facilities, and energy management. The department's external service delivery provides garbage and recycling collection service for single-family residential units, including contained and uncontained collections, household hazardous waste disposal, the transfer station, and landfill operations.

The Facilities Planning and Projects Division (FPPD) provides citywide asset, energy, and project management services to more than 860 city-owned and leased facilities encompassing 10.6 million square feet, including the downtown campus, police and fire stations, libraries, service centers, senior centers, parks and pools, recreation centers, cultural facilities, and other city buildings/infrastructure.

The Public Works Department is looking for a Building Automation Technician (Electronics Systems Specialist) to act as a liaison between the Public Works Energy Management Section and the HVAC Building Equipment Operators to support field services of the citywide building automation control system. Work involves minor installations, troubleshooting, and repair of building automation controllers that are responsible for forced air and hydronic cooling and heating systems. A portion of the work will also be directed toward lighting control troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance in coordination with the Public Works Facilities Electrical team. This position requires thorough knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and a full understanding of building automation integration to HVAC mechanical systems and lighting controls where a sequence of operations has been specified. A fundamental understanding of troubleshooting tools and software will be an essential requirement.

SALARY

Pay Range: $26.83 to $45.89 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.83 to $35.96 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
  • AND Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience with:
  • Commercial, municipal, and governmental Building Automation and HVAC operations.
  • Working with industry experts and senior staff.
  • Large scale HVAC systems.
  • HVAC service industry.
  • Project oversight for startup, testing, and inspection of Building Automation Systems.
  • Energy Management.
  • Computer network configuration, network hardware, building automation software, and network configuration.
