This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
Provide housekeeping and building services for our residential students, visiting faculty, guests, and conference participants with the safest and cleanest environment possible. Utilize and properly maintain cleaning equipment, based on standard operating procedures, to departmental specifications. The housekeeping position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and assisting in the maintenance of buildings which complements the impact of student development goals of the department.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, one year of experience demonstrating the ability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties
  • Provide housekeeping and building services for our residential students, visiting faculty, and guests.
  • Utilize and properly maintain cleaning equipment, based on standard operating procedures, to departmental specifications.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and assisting in the maintenance of buildings which complements the impact of student development goals of the department.
  • Performs basic cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, waste removal, restocking restrooms, disinfecting/sanitizing, etc., to keep work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Clean all fixtures, showers, floors, the exterior of dispensers' door push and kick plates, restroom receptacles, partitions, and rails. Monitors stairwells, entrance areas, and common areas for cleanliness.
  • Recognizes and follows dispenser directions to properly mix cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintains an inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure appropriate levels needed to perform work.
  • Responsible for cleaning assigned areas, public restrooms, public areas, trash rooms/areas (dumpsters/carts, trash room, housekeeping trash closet), and offices.
  • Understands and complies with University Safety, State, and OSHA requirements including those related to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Communicates with management to obtain an understanding of the organization's objectives. Steps in to help the department during large-scale events.
  • Represents the department positively when interacting or near students/staff; is sensitive to issues and demonstrate appropriate interpersonal behavior.
  • Creates a partnership with all staff and maintenance team to ensure all maintenance issues are corrected in a timely fashion, and to provide a positive residential experience for all students and guests.

  • Effective interpretation skills in verbal, written, comprehension and interpersonal communication needed.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with customers, students, staff and faculty and ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Strong attention to detail necessary.
