Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities maintenance and plant equipment operations work in schools. Work of the class involves varied building cleaning duties and related facilities and grounds maintenance work. Employees receive on the job training in the application of simple manual skill and use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment, and supplies to clean interior of buildings and maintain grounds. Nature of work is repetitive and requires sustained physical effort and involves some heavy work in moving or lifting furniture and equipment with some exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements. Employees in positions assigned to community use of schools work must possess the appropriate certificate for checking or operating heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment. Employees must work on Saturdays and Sundays to facilitate ICB use of MCPS facilities by user groups. Maintains security of school building during assigned weekend shifts. Employees in these classes are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to buildings during inclement weather.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:

Must be able to obtain a boiler certificate indicating proficiency in the safe operation of low pressure boilers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Workdays consist of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Normally the only staff at times in the building.
  • Saturday and/or Sunday- if no ICB activity at base school- they will be moved for that day to another school to cover the ICB activity (schools are no longer able to piggyback off of an ICB user group)
  • Their actual hours (8.5 hours) could be morning, mid-day, or evening on a Saturday and Sunday. Keys, code, schedule, and any pertinent information needs obtained before the weekend if scheduled at another school.
  • If overtime is under 3 hours for the school in which they are covering- they will be asked to cover it. We cannot bring in another employee for under 3 hours.
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Timesheet will be handled by their base school
  • The ICB Weekend Worker is responsible for getting their leave slips and authorization forms to the timekeeper per their instructions. (ICB authorization forms come via email and we have until Thursday to complete them.)
  • Usually -2 mandatory trainings held on a Friday in Rockville area (TBD- dates and times)
  • The ICB Weekend Worker is responsible for entering their schedule by the due date on the ICB website every week.
  • The ICB Weekend Worker is responsible for entering their authorization forms by the due date every week.
  • The ICB Weekend Worker is responsible for reading emails.
  • Must be able to use a computer and read the schedules (this is a live system-meaning information should be accurate)
  • Must be very customer service oriented
  • Must be responsible and very dependable
  • Must be able to work independently and sometimes as a team player
  • Must be able to make good and fast critical decisions at times
  • Will be scheduled for Basic Skills training by ERSC
  • BSAM will train every Friday
  • BSM or BSAM will be given 3 hours to train basic information on a Saturday or Sunday
  • We may have the new hire work with another ICB Weekend Worker to get a clear understanding of the job


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the methods, materials and practices of building and grounds work; ability to operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment; ability to secure a current valid boiler operation certificate and license and to satisfactorily complete in-service training required for this classification; uses personal protective equipment and other safety tools and practices; monitors building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment; possesses a basic knowledge of emergency response procedures. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Completion of the ninth grade required. High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
