Your Role:

This role is the operational lead for research and development activities for the Dielectrics business. You are ultimately responsible for sustained growth and future prospects in the business through innovation protected by strong IP. New products should be developed based on a deep understanding of customer needs and partnership opportunities with OEM's, combined with recognition of long-term trends in our industry and society at large.

  • This is a manager of managers responsible for coordination of all R&D activities supporting the Dielectrics business, with ultimate accountability for safety of the R&D team and the NPI performance of this business.
  • Coordination of TF R&D teams in Shizuoka, Carlsbad, Tempe, Hometown as well as affiliated research elsewhere, e.g. Banwol, Daejeon, ETCC, Sheboygan, San Jose. Ensure that efforts are coordinated and duly prioritized in consultation with Marketing, CAS and, most critically, OEM counterparts.
  • The incumbent is expected to provide deep technical understanding of the dielectrics technology to provide guidance and ensure scientific rigor by the teams. They will capitalize on the technical synergies of merging organosilanes and SOD into a single R&D organization. Developing the right resources moving forward to maintain the position as supplier of choice for our customers and OEM partners. They ensure that research activities are innovation focused and follow sound scientific principles and will generate a strong patent position.
  • Work with Dielectrics GM and head of TF R&D to effectively implement strategic initiatives.
  • Work with managers to hold them accountable for key metrics; including gate passes, Accolade check list items, budget, etc.
  • Ensure that modern data and digital techniques are appropriately used and that the R&D portfolio has an improving sustainability impact.
  • They will also work with their peers in other BF's and corporate labs to ensure a 'One Company's mindset is maintained.
  • Represent the business as a technical leader to our customers and OEM partners and at conferences and other public venues.


The preferred locations for this role are Carlsbad, CA, Tempe, AZ, Hometown (Tamaqua), PA. Other US locations may be considered. This role can also be located in Japan.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in science or engineering or equivalent research experience.
  • Extensive research background (>10 years) in chemistry, materials science or closely related areas
  • Substantial professional experience including significant research management responsibility (>5 years).
  • Requires senior to deep and/or broad knowledge and experience in their own discipline and should also possess market and competitor knowledge.

Pay Range for this position: $109,400 - $328,200

Our ranges incorporate all levels and career types available within this specific role, and are derived from relevant industry market data.
